Hi Guys,

Few qustions for OCI submission at BLS:

Regarding document upload section:

1> Current Passport --> Is this new Canadian passport or existing Indian passport ?
2>Indian Origin Proof--> This should be Indian passport. correct?
3> Indian Visa-- Landing paper?
4>Can i submit the application on behalf of my spouse as well at BLS or she needs to accompany me , will tis require a authorization letter?
5> In case of Minor do we need to submit NOC?

Lastly, do all the documents uploaded online has to be self attested stating " this is to certify from the original"?

As per the checklist:

CURRENT
PASSPORT------------->
- Current Passport Copy (photo
page)------------------------------------------------so only photo page, 1st page only?
INDIAN ORIGIN
PROOF-->
Surrendered Indian passport
(first and last page) with stamp
showing ‘Cancelled on
acquiring foreign citizenship.’---------------------------will surrender passport during oci application submission, so how can we provide this?

Kindly suggest, Thanks

Use this checklist - scroll all the way down to the last page. It is clearly mentioned on what to upload !

https://www.blsindia-canada.com/CanadaVisaCCT/toronto-OCI-checklist-rev-11-1-jan-19.pdf
1. Canadian Passport
2. Yes as mentioned in the check list
3. Yes as mentioned in the check list
4. Just an authorization letter would do
5. Yes
Yes you need to self attest all document including one uploaded. I self attested then scanned to upload.
- Current passport only photo copy because Canadian passport doesn't have an address page like Indian one
- You can't because you are only going to surrender. The people who work at BLS knows this. So you only need to provide what you have as of now.

  1. If I go to BLS Brampton in person can I drop the OCI Applications of all my family together? (Mine and wife's in one application and our son's in a separate application since he is adult). Or should they also come with me?
  2. Do Costco or Walmart take photographs as per OCI specs? Costco use white background. I think OCI says non-white light color background. Have anyone used these studios?
1. Yes, get an authorization letter to be safe
2. Yes, if you tell them what size you want. I usually just take a picture with my digital camera, then use one of the online sites like idphoto4you dot com to get the right size in a 6X4. I take this to a Walmart and print for 20 cents.

If you apply for surrender of passport and OCI at the same time, do they both come together?

My timelines seem to clash for travel but given surrender certificate comes early i.e. in 3-4 weeks and OCI takes more time, I might just bite the bullet and apply for visa 2-3 days prior to departure if OCI does not come through.

Can this be done?

Thank you!

The following is written about photographs on the BLS website :

"Two photograph of size 51mm x 51mm for each applicant to be pasted on Part A of the application form. The photograph should be of good quality taken against a light coloured (NOT WHITE) background ...."

Is the white colored background an issue? Anyone has experience ?

There is a question in Part-B of the application.

Do you have relatives staying in India?

Who should be added be added as part of this question? I am guessing it should include,
  • Father
  • Mother
  • Wife's family
  • My cousins & family
Should I include all of the them? Please suggest how should I go about this application

Since we all have a zillion relatives back in India, I restricted it to the folks living in my house back home and my close relatives.
Father
Mother
Brothers and sisters
In laws
That's all I included.

Thanks Xylene for the nice reply, submitted my oci application last week, hope to hear back in the next 4-6 weeks as per the timelines told.

In "Checklist for Surrender of Indian Passport", under Application form, it states that

- Two copies of the form (in duplicate) are required, download.....

When they say duplicate, is it handwritten two copies or a photocopy should be fine?

I completed two applications in duplicate (handwritten). It is confusing so to be on the same side.

Today I stopped by BLS Ottawa office to submit passport for OCI matchup process (listed below). I was told it's no longer needed. I will be heading back around 3PM to pick up my OCI booklet. It took exactly 30 days from OCI acknowledgment ( APR 30) which is pretty impressive for GOI standards.

https://www.blsindia-canada.com/ocimisc.php -> processing time
Ottawa Jurisdiction
The minimum processing time to return the original documents is 7-15 working days.
Issuance of OCI Booklet -6- 8 Weeks.
OCI matchup - 3-5 working days after submission of passport and supporting documents. --- No longer valid

I am in the process of preparing application and docs for Indian Citizenship Renunciation and OCI for my whole family. I am planning to go to BLS Brampton in person and submit both the applications together for me & wife (one application as a family) and son (adult-21 years- saparate application).

I have some questions:

(1)Fees : What I understand from the BLS site is that for OCI Fees, a DD is required; But its BLS charges can be paid using debit card at the counter. But Renunciation fee can be fully paid at the counter using debit card. I am not sure whether what I understand is correct because many things are given differently in different places of their website and I am confused.

Can someone clarify whether any DD is required at all or everything can be paid at the counter. If DD required- for what amount?

(2)Separate declaration on paper if not married- this is applicable for my son since he is an unmarried adult. Is such a separate declaration letter required?

(3)OCI Family Application- Application for myself and my wife will be in a single online family application. When I generate the PDF after online registration, will it have places marked for signatures of me and my wife?

(4)Since son is adult he can not be clubbed in the family application and he has to apply separately, Right?

(5)Renunciation application two copies and OCI application one copy, Right?

(6)Some docs like passport copies are required for both renunciation and OCI. Should I include separate copies of these docs or will one copy be sufficient since I am applying together? (Since only I am going and submitting my wife's and son's applications also, knowing this in advance is important since their signatures and self attestation required on copies)

(7)In OCI application I saw that wife's documents (passport etc) also to be submitted along with mine. But since both of us are applying together as a a family, I guess I don't have to worry about this part, Right?

(8)In the field for our parent's name and occupation there is no way to mention whether they are alive or not. So, if one of them is no more, I have to write his name and occupation when he was alive, Right?

I know this is a very very long questionnaire. If someone is able to give these info, it is great !!! Thanks in advance :)!!!
