Hi guys,

I am going to apply for the OCI. The OCI guidance says the divorce certificate must be attested by the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi. Can anyone suggest me please how can I get attested the divorce certificate by the Ministry of External Affairs, ND.

I am currently living in Canada.

Thanks.

Gulshan

BLS can do it for you. Here's the link.

Do you have answer for the first part attested from the Ministry of Ontario ? please advise
If divorced in Canada, the divorce certificated should be attested from the Ministry of Ontario and further attested by the Consulate General of India, Toronto

Read this =>

https://www.ontario.ca/page/authenticate-document-use-outside-canada

Follow the instructions there, get it attested by Ministry of services in Ontario and then submit it to the consulate for attestation.

Hello Raj,

If Divorce was granted in Canadian court we still need this attestation? I checked with Family Lawyer they are saying not required. I am very confused. Can you share your thoughts?

I'm not sure about this. I mean, if the MEA expects marriage certificates issued by Canadian authorities to be notarized by the ministry of services AND the consulate, then by extension, MEA should expect the divorce certificate attested in a similar manner as well. I would strongly recommend that you get it attested by Ministry of services and then by the consulate before submitting it to BLS. Alternatively, you can contact BLS and check with them to see what they have to say.

Thank you so much. I figured it all, I went to Office of document services and got everything done.

@Ryn_20 could you please share your experience, how did you proceed with it?

I’m in a similar situation, i was married in India and divorced in Canada, and very soon i’ve to apply for the OCI card.
I have moved to different province now. But, I have all the original documentation with me (marriage and divorce certificate)

This whole process sounds so much confusing that any help/insight will be appreciated. Thanks so much in advance.
