Hi everyone,

I understand there are different occupations that are in demand in Canada. Are there any occupations ceilings (how many people can get invited for each occupation) or there’s a general pool for all the occupations.
I am sure there was research done on number of people they need for each occupation before the immigration programme is designed for the year.
If they invite people from the general pool, what if they send out 100 invites and all 100 of them are taken by either accountants or IT professionals. What if they really need dentists or other professionals?

Interestingly, when you look at the end of year statistics about occupations it's pretty well balanced:

I think Canada's main aim is just bring in young people who are educated and have some work experience, i don't think they have acute shortages in specific occupations nationally. On a provincial level there are, but that's why provincial nomination programs are usually linked to people's occupations, i.e. they will nominate people according to their occupations very often.

I know in Australia a lot is dictated by occupation ceilings. Immigrating as an accountant now is virtually impossible for example.

There is a huge mismatch between professions being approved to immigrate and need. For example the last thing Canada needs is more dentists and pharmacists yet the immigration program favours professional degrees. A lot of the professions in need studies by the government are incorrect. The provinces are a bit better at determining the current needs in the workforce but it is a major problem.

considering the fact that they are inviting people from a general pool, I wonder if those studies are even relevant (except at state level)
