Hey Everyone,

Please let me know if we are required to be in the country to take the Oath Ceremony? I'm trying to find a link or some post from IRCC which states that. I have my oath ceremony scheduled for the week of the 19th and I do not expect IRCC to respond to my Web Form question before that. Please do share if you have any link.

Thanks in advance!

You MUST be in the country to take the oath of citizenship. The instructions you'll receive by email will clearly state that. The clerk at the ceremony will also confirm by asking you if you are in Canada before proceeding with the oath ceremony.

Call the call center to see if they start allowing from outside just like test.
Is the oath email coming from the officer or from centralized location? I wonder why you raised webform, didnt they give any email to ask for reschedule/questions?

No harm in asking but it is extremely unlikely they will ever let anyone take oath outside Canada for reasons I mentioned here. It will remain unlikely unless Citizenship certificates are made purely digital (no paper certificate issued) which I think might take a while and unlikely to happen in the foreseeable future.

But IRCC has surprises up its sleeve. We never know.

Correct and i dont expect them to allow for oath. They should allow interview too from outside as we just need oath date, we can travel to come for oath since its all the thing we need, no complaints ;)

Thanks everyone for the help. Was hopeful that they'll accept it given everything is online now but I also understand the importance of taking such an important step from within the country.

They did some update today concerning the oath of citizenship.

added more information about Foreign Service Officers administering the Oath abroad, and a link to the Citizenship Program Manual For Service Delivery Abroad.

Taking the Oath outside of Canada: If an applicant has been granted citizenship under subsection 5(2), 5(4) or 11(1) of the Citizenship Act [including a person who is serving or has served in or with the Canadian Armed Forces and who meets the service requirement found in subsection 11(1.1) or 11 (1.2)] and is located outside of Canada, the Oath of Citizenship may be administered by a foreign service officer—see paragraph 20(1)(b) of the Citizenship Regulations. These exceptional cases are treated as private ceremonies and require citizenship staff to seek approval from the Registrar to allow a foreign service officer to administer the oath outside of Canada. Citizenship staff email Cit-Operations requesting the approval—refer to Citizenship Program Manual for Service Delivery Abroad for more procedural information.

Good information.
So for now, its easier and time saving if we take the oath from inside the country.
