Hello seniors ,
I am in a difficult situation could you please help
My father has diagnosed cancer and on last stage . I am taking care of him in Back home . I got the oath invitation which is on June 9th . For me it's really difficult to travel in this situation. Can I ask IRCC to attend the citizenship ceremony from outside Canada? Is it possible to attend ceremony from outside Canada or its really necessary to Travel to Canada to attend ceremony ?
Any thoughts please?
Thank you

Look reply back to the email address that you received the correspondence from, explain your situation and see what they say, they can either say:
1) No, we will have to postpone it
2) No, let us know when you're back in the country
3) Yes, given your situation and explanation you can

There have been 2 cases where this has been possible that I've read i.e. permission has been granted for someone to take the oath ceremony from abroad.

Just be honest with them....and also sending best wishes in regards to your Father

Video oath ceremony (virtual citizenship ceremony)
Due to COVID-19, we cancelled all in-person citizenship ceremonies. We’re inviting applicants to video oath ceremonies instead.

Please wait for us to invite you.

Contact us through the web form if you
  • had a ceremony scheduled on or before March 15, 2020, and
  • haven’t received an invitation for a video oath ceremony"
Doesnt this mean that the oath can be made online?

Can I ask where you read about this, about these 2 cases? I'm in similar situation , I plan to ask them as well because my father is seriously ill.

You can. Email them requesting taking oath outside with doctor's diganosis and they will forward the request to Registar of Canadian Citizenship who's the decision maker.

Yes it does....HOWEVER....as per the norm it MUST be done within Canada.....with only a few exceptions where you can do it outside, but I assume each case is taken on its own merits

There was one thread here sometime in April which was a first hand account of taking the oath outside Canada. In all probability it would be on Page 2 by now.

My best wishes to your father.

Firstly best wishes regarding your father's health.
Can you please let us know whether you were able to get the permission to take oath outside Canada?

This thread is almost 8 months old. Chances are that the request was denied. Don't count on this happening so you may want to make arrangements to travel to Canada (if outside) & if you want to take the oath when invited.
