Hi,

I have applied for Canadian citizen along with my son(5 years old). My son is autistic, my wife has to travel back to India, so he can get therapy. And I cant alone manage him.

Now, I got oath invitation along with my son for 21st Feb and I supposed to travel India to bring him back along with my wife. But my wife got an accident today and doctors clearly said, she cant travel atleast for two weeks and she has to be in complete bed rest.

Now below are my queries:
1. Does my son need to be in India during OATH?
2. Per my understanding, he does not need to attend oath. Hence I wont bring him in Canada for Oath. Would it be legal process to let him be in India during our oath?
3. If point#2 is legal process, How can I apply his Canadian passport for my son? from India or Canada.

Any help would be helpful thanks a lot!

Your son doesn't need to be part of the oath ceremony, but you will need to cut his PR card. As far as I know, the process involves sending the pieces of the PR card for your child to an address provided by IRCC. However, I’m not sure about the latest procedure. If someone who has recently gone through the ceremony with children could share their experience, it might help.

You didn’t mention which type of certificate you’ve opted for. If you’ve chosen the e-certificate, you can apply for the passport either in Canada or India, but both parents must sign the application form. You’ll need to handle that part.

Since your child is in India, once the PR card is cut, he won’t be able to leave India on a Canadian passport. He would need to apply for the surrender of the Indian passport and obtain an exit permit to travel on the Canadian passport. This is an additional step you’ll need to manage.

you will need to cut his PR card --> As he is in India, can we just cut PR card and send over to them through post or just pic whichever way they will accept it. or I need to have his PR card along with me while I will be taking oath and need to cut my son and my pr card in front of them during oath ceremony.

Does your or your sons oath email talk about it? Better to call IRCC and check the process.
