Number of undertakings help - IMM 5481

I am a Canadian living in the US with my boyfriend, we have an 8 month old son. I am sponsoring my boyfriend to come to Canada under the family class - common- law partner. Our son will not need a visa because he is applying for a Canadian citizenship certificate.

I am having some trouble filling out form IMM 5481 about the undertakings, I am a Canadian citizen that has never sponsored before and my boyfriend is the only one I am sponsoring. How should I fill this undertaking section out?

4. Yourself 1?

5. a) current undertakings 1?
number of persons included in #3 box of Generic Application form IMM 0008 under Application Details

This sentence confuses me, on that form I originally put 3 for myself, my boyfriend and our baby.

5. b) I have not had any previous undertaking so I guess I would put 0 for the boxes.

6. a) 0?
6. b) 1? for my son, because he is not applying for a visa?
every other family member not included above that is dependent on you whether they live with you or not.

7. total number of persons 3?


I just want to make sure I am doing this right, please let me know. Thank you!!!

4. 1 (because that's just you, and you're one person)
5a. I believe it should be 2 (your partner and your baby, though if the baby isn't actually being sponsored, maybe you wouldn't include him? I'm unsure here). On IMM0008, you should not have included yourself.
b. 0
6a. 0
b. 0 if you include the baby in 5a
7. Either 2 or 3, as I am still not sure if you include your son as an undertaking because he doesn't need sponsorship. Someone else will have to confirm that for you.

Yeah this part confused me too. I'm being sponsered by my wife so in my case if someone could confirm it should be

Yours is correct. For the situation above where there is a child who is a dependent but doesn't need to be sponsored, I'm unclear about. But if yours is just you and your wife, that should be fine.

I'm filling this form in right now. It is just me and my wife(sponsor). Total comes to 2, thank you for clarifying that in this forum.

My question is a little silly, but I like to be careful. In the section where it says details family members and persons included in undertakings in effect or not yet in effect, so we leave it blank or put N/A. I don't want to get rejected for something like this so I just wanted to clarify.

I believe you have it right. I have the same. I will be putting in N/A in the first line on those boxes.
