Hi,

My husband is in a part time permanent position. He used to work only 20hr/week while he was a student, but he after he finished he worked more than 30 hours a week. Will IRCC consider this as 30hr/week or just 20hr/week given that it is a part time permanent position?

If this is work under Canada student permit, then it’s not counted under Canadian work experience. His work will only count once he applied for PGWP.

if this part time work while studying it’s counted as how you explained it. 20 per week then increased to 30 per week. Edit: if this is outside Canada you can count the part time work hours.

Any time worked while holding a study permit CANNOT be counted as Canadian Experience.

Only the time worked while holding a valid work permit (in his case a PGWP most likely).

This was a part time job while he was studying, but when he finished and waited for his PGWP he got more hours.

You can only the work gained after he applied for PGWP - that’s when you start counting Canadian work experience. Part time work while studying is not considered.

Thank you! So just to confirm, it is AFTER HE APPLIED for PGWP and not necessarily the issue date on the PGWP, right? I remember he finished his studies and applied for PGWP a couple of months before he actually got the PGWP document.

The work hours still count while he's in implied status
Thank you! This is clear now. In case he's short on hours, will his current employment work hours add to the work experience? He's working at the a different company now but it's basically the same job description.

As long as it's a NOC 0 A or B job, so then yes

Oh we are applying through the temporary stream TR to PR for Essential Non- Healthcare workers. IRCC gave a list of eligible jobs and his was there.
If it's under the new policy TR to PR application, the hours worked under a student permit also count, unlike with EE-CEC program.
