i applied for tourist visa for my wife and my daughter last week and i got approval today,is anyone know if it is mandatory to get travel insurance before they come here or can i apply later once they land here?just only worried they might ask that at port of entry..
You don't have to buy, but I always buy for my families in case something happens. Remember the expensive health care price here....
No, you don't need to buy it. But as Seraph_Waiting said, you'd better to have good cash at hand, just in case.

How did you tell you got an update on your myCIC account since there is nothing changed?
Under the details column corresponding to the application it showed 'updated' but when I clicked on 'check status and messages' for the application it didn't have any changes. Anyways, the next day I checked my ecas and it showed 'Decision Made'.
