Delay is bcoz i added spouse to my file.

Next week its going to be 16months yet no update showing online
Called cic n they said security checks are being done

Can anybody give me an idea how long does security checks take bfr getting desicion made??

No need to worry. I am Nov 26 applicant still waiting DM. I had my spouse on file since day1.
CIC agent said to me:"We verified the information you provided and are pleased to inform you that everything appears to be in order with your application. It is still within processing times."

Adding spouse to application delays process makes total sense. Your spouse also need to be background checked & security checked that IRCC/RCMP/CSIS need extra time to review documents, investigate & writing report etc.

I added my spouse in January but she is a canadian citizen.. would that delay my application?

May or may not. depends how much stuff they need to investigate. It may be so little that you won't notice

I doubt it.. they would probably do an investigation for her if she was not a canadian citizen since she already is a Canadian citizen and not asking for PR what is the point of doing her pointless background check.

my passport return tracker activated today March 22. sent out my passport on Monday march 20, CIC received on March 21. Cant believe its soo fast.
Passport request on March 17. December 21 applicant.

I doubt it.. they would probably do an investigation for her if she was not a canadian citizen since she already is a Canadian citizen and not asking for PR what is the point of doing her pointless background check.

That is not the point. She could be a security risk regardless of the nationality (Canada has convicted citizens of terrorism, and considered stripping Citizenship of those who have dual citizenship)
And possible criminal history by spouse that could prevent OP from eligible for PR by association.

did you send your passport with spouse? I have same timeline as you but my spouse send her passport to different visa centre as she is not in Canada but my return tracker is not activated yet.
