Who can become a sponsor
You can become a sponsor if you are:

  • at least 18 years old
  • a Canadian citizen, a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act or a permanent resident living in Canada:
    • If you are a Canadian citizen living outside Canada, you must show that you plan to live in Canada when your sponsored relative(s) become(s) a permanent resident.
    • You can’t sponsor someone if you are a permanent resident living outside Canada.
  • able to prove that you are not receiving social assistance for reasons other than a disability, and;
  • can provide for the basic needs of any person you are sponsoring (and in some limited situations, that you meet the low-income cut-off).
What if the person really has to go out of country for Work. Let say i got client location for 6 to 8 Months in USA, will my sponsorship be denied?

Any body has faced this?

If you are working for a Canadian company, then this won't count against you.

I think there is a bunch of us with AOR1 on the 16th of Jan and have received no further communication. Can we clarify location of PA in our cases. I think this has a large part to play. Or maybe we are all stuck with the same individual to process our files.

PA in our application is from Nigeria

I’d imagine if your company has sent you there for a job then they’d provide some sort of evidence that you could show the visa officers to prove you’re out of country on work.

It’s an entirely different situation than choosing to go to India for a number of months to live with your wife whilst still being paid to work from home. You’re not required to be there by your company after all, so you could easily be denied.

If I were you, I’d follow the advice of your immigration lawyer and countless users on here and steer well away from staying over there for an extended period of time.

There’s many other options you could explore that wouldn’t endanger your application, such as getting your partner to Canada on a TRV under duel intent. However, this also is not guaranteed.

A lot of people I know keep telling me that the applications these days are taking less time to be processed and that mine may be processed by May.

I always feel happy to hear such a positive response. However, I was planning to visit my wife in mid May and was planning for a trip to another country (need to get the bookings done asap). Now, I am worried they might ask for her passport while or a few days before our tip. Just wanted to know how much time we are given to submit the passport?

Also, what do you think are the chances of application being processed by end of May? I received my AOR1 on January 25 and no update since then.

You never know to be honest, I’m in the same situation I want to visit my husband April/may but I doubt it too that it will be so fast. You can see my timeline in my signature

I feel the same. However, I sometimes visit discussion board for June 2018 out-land applications and their application has not yet been processed completely - passport has not been requested yet and are still waiting for their background check to finish (as per my knowledge so far it takes 3-5 months). Considering that I assume our's will be done by July or August.
