Husband (PA)’s background check started March 11/19. He handed in the certified criminal record check from his country’s consulate with the application.

I had always assumed that once the sponsor receives DM, then the PA follows within 24-48 hours. It’s interesting that there are a number of us that are waiting at this stage, isn’t it? @Geno.uss, can you give us some words of wisdom on what you think the stall is? Or is it just due to delay in security checks? I had thought that that would have been in place before eligibility was passed and AIP granted.
I'm assuming it might be the countries related to our background checks are just being slow in providing information and/or the security checks are taking some time and usually security checks are the last phase
Thanks for the information. I was wondering how do they do full background check? Do they contact to authorizes from PA s country?
Yes they contact authorities from the PA's home country and every other country where the PA spent over 6 months, the authorities check the PA's record to see if he/she ever had any record of convictions, arrests, offences including driving related offences, terrorism acts, fraud, if he/she ever been to jail/prison...
They also confirm the authenticity of all the documents the PA and sponsor sent them to make sure people are not commiting any fraud to get the PR in Canada
In addition, CBSA and CSIS check with other countries to see if the PA ever been refused a visa including visitor, immigrant, refugee or was deported for any act
So, CBSA and CSIS get in touch with all related authorities from different countries to do the background check, and when CBSA and CSIS hear back from them that everything is good/bad they report back to IRCC, then IRCC makes a final decision or sends a procedural fairness letter explaining what they found on the PA record and how it makes him/her inadmissible to Canada

Thank you for this detailed reply. My husband is from India~ perhaps this is one of the countries that takes longer to get security clearance~ it took weeks to get the PCC initially (to attach to the app) from the embassy. Hopefully, things move along soon for all of us waiting. Did the other 4 PAs waiting get their AIPs?
Yes all other PAs got AIP
There's also 2 applicants from October going through the same situation

Yeah and that's why it takes some time, but if authorities are taking their sweet time then we experience delays
I'm waiting for London office to forward me the interview time. I'm so impatient lol can't really explain.
Oh you're still waiting too.. i'm getting impatient too. I am estimating sometime this week for sure maybe Thursday.
