Newbie here and I apologize in advance if I am asking a newbie question. I was getting ready to mail out my PR application and realized that I had my "Statement of Account" and not my "Notice of Assessment" from the CRA that I need for the application process. I called the CRA and one person said that I could print out detailed information about my previous year's assessment online. I called another representative at the CRA to request a new Notice of Assessment just to be safe. The problem is, I have already ordered my police certificates (which have arrived) and they will be expired if I wait the entire time (16-20 weeks as stated by CRA) that it will take for the new Notice of Assessment to arrive.

My question is: Should I provide the online (printed out) information from my previous year's assessment in the application packet with a letter of explanation? I would also mention that I will send out the official notice of assessment as soon as I received it in this letter.

Also, I could include a copy of the statement of account which basically details that I paid the $7 that I owed to the CRA. Would this be a bad idea to include additional "official information?

Any additional assistance would be greatly appreciated. I thought I was so close and now I'm ready to break down... :'(

At this time, your most recent T4 and notice of assessment are those you received last year. Send them with your application and include a letter saying you will forward the ones for this year when you receive it. It is advisable to wait until a file has been created(that is, when you receive a acknowledgement of receipt) before you forward additional documents to CIC.

Just to clarify a bit: I did receive a Notice of Assessment for my 2010 tax year. I make sure that I file all documents religiously, but for some reason, I cannot find my 2010 notice of assessment...

Better not to let the PCCs lapse - I would go ahead and send the application with the online printout.

BTW - I know stuff happens (I lost a bunch of documents in a flood), but you are supposed to keep all tax documents on file for 7 years. So, from now on, KEEP your NOAs! :)

As noted, you won't be able to add anything to the application until you receive your file number. If you get a replacement copy of your NOA for 2010, and you get your T4 and NOA for 2011, you can send those later. You might be asked for them, you might not...

I greatly appreciate your response and I apologize in advance for one additional question. Along with the cover letter/letter of explanation of why I do not have my most current NOA, should I also include my Statement of Account from the CRA. This is basically an official document from the CRA stating what I was owing and that I paid the balance (a kind of ledger for my previous tax filings)? Or is it better just to include the online printout from the CRA and a cover letter/letter of explanation? Thank you again for all of your help!

I don't think you need the statement of account.

hey guys,
I worked in BC for two years. I never received my Notice of Assessment for 2010. (maybe because I moved). Now, my 2011 NOA still not here. I have to leave soon and apply CEC in my home country. So, I plan to submit my application with online print out NOA 2011. What do you guys think?

Thanks

For all you people dealing with lost NOA's. Just make an acocunt online on CRA and then you can print and see your NOA's for the last few years, I don't know for how long but for few years or may be all.

And a photocopy is all that required, it doesn;t have to be original.

Thanks, just wanted to confirm that online print out version is acceptable since it is different from the one we got from CRA through post.

Toddmeng I'm wondering whether you submitted an online copy of the NOA.. Can you comment on that?

Vijay-

I have sent the assessment report from CRA website. If that helps you.
Just take a printout-scan it-send it through email (if sending afterwards) :)

Phew! Thanks JBLoknath.. I printed it off the CRA website and sent it with my package already. Quick question.. Did you add your NOA after receiving AOR?

No, I did not add NoA as CIC did not request it. I guess the information from CRA site was enough for them.

For all those, who are looking for their NOA's, you can call the CRA on 1-800-959-8281 and ask for a hardcopy of all your NOA's till date. The call centre will ask you few questions to verify and will send the NOAs to your address in 7-10 days. Hope this helps.

Sure.. But the big question was whether they would accept the print out from CRA website
