Hi
i went along my friend to acompany him during his Pemanant residence border crossing.
I am not sure if i crossed the us border, i dont have any stamp on my passport and the canadian side i was asked to give my PR card, the officer gave it back after taking it inside.so i am not sure if that is considered as entry or exit. Please advise.

The US didn't stamp you because you were turned around and didn't enter. Canada asked for your card because you were entering Canada.

In other words, you left Canada, but you didn't enter the United States. You then re-entered Canada.

I doubt it would count as technically neither of you entered the us. They usually issue an administrative refusal of entry( so the CBP officer said). Essentially, they didn't allow you entry, at least on paper. It allows folks to flagpole who may need a visa to actually enter the States. Your friend just had to leave Canada and process through customs on the way back in. I never actually was registered as entering the States per what the lady said for mine. But she felt the need to actually call Canadian customs because as an American she couldn't refuse my entry. :/ I'm fairly certain legally or otherwise, neither of you actually entered the states but they did want to confirm who you are.
