Hi, Everyone
I think CIC callcentre is not very helpful as they were used to be. I am a foreign student My status expired on Dec 3rd.BUT i applied online for the renewal or extension of my study permit a WEEK before the expiration of the study permit.BUT DUE TO THE CIC ONLINE technical issue my application didn't submitted HOWEVER my payment of the renewal went through. I CALLED CIC TO make sure my application have been submitted or not they said wait for 24 hrs and it will be submitted. I waited for 4 days but hasn't been submitted yet and also i couldn't able to do it anything on there. I sent may be like 5 e-mails to the questions.gc.ca but they replied me THE SAME TYPICAL STANDARD WORDING.Anyways moving forward to avoid confusion i also mailed the hard copy to Vegreville 3 days before the EXPIRATION of the status. BUT AFTER 1 WEEK i got a msg in my cic account they said they received my application on Dec. 7th so i have to pay an additional 200$ for the RESTORATION . SO WHAT ABOUT MY APPLICATION i have mailed before my status expired. OK I HAVE NO PROB to pay the money. Can somebody pls tell me Whats going on here i mean its completely frustrating and NOT MY FAULT

PLS REPLY IF SOMEONE KNOW THE SOLUTION. I would appreciate your reply. Thanks

If you wait till 1 week before expiration to apply then you should be expecting problems like this.

They recommend you apply more then a month before expiration because problems like this do happen.

The only solution is to pay the additional $200 for the restoration. It doesn't matter when you mailed your application for an extension. All that matters is when it was received by CIC - and your application was received after your status had expired.

Next time don't leave your extension so late.

Hi,above users thanks for the reply. I made a big mistake by applying a week before and i didn't realize this is the foreign land and i shouldn't mess with anything. But i read somewhere it says that MAILED before the status expired and it doesn't matter if they received after the expiration.I am screwed i think. I got so busy in my exams which i passed on the same day i applied extension of the permit. :( :( I was going to apply for the PGWP as well but now i think can't do anything,I am so worried and stressed out :( :( :( :(

You are mistaken. It doesn't matter when the application was mailed. It must be RECEIVED by CIC before your current study permit expires.

You need a valid study permit in order to apply for the PGWP.

You need to pay the restoration fee and wait for your study permit to be restored before you can apply for the PGWP.

Same thing happened to me, but I wasn't even given the option to pay 200 bucks (yes, I contacted them a gazillion times too). I ended up missing out on my PGWP because of their technical issue. MY POINT IS, if it's important for you, you should pay the 200 bucks because there is no way they will make it up to you, and other options to get a work permit are way more of a challenge than paying that 200 bucks.
