I've read stories about people who really messed up and didnt put their parents or siblings down on a form i guess or something
that resulted in them not being able to petition them.

May i know What form that is on?
is that the additional dependants declaration form?

For the purposes of sponsoring your spouse, parents are not dependents. They are additional family members (IMM5406, section A).

Failure to declare a sibling or parent does not just impact future sponsorships, it affects the current sponsorship, because it is a misrepresentation. It closes off an avenue of possible investigation as to the admissibility of the applicant.

CharlieD,

I'm applying for PR for my common-law. For the family form, we listed his mother and siblings but he does not know his father. It's sad, but his mother does not even know for sure who his father is. So we wrote "NA" in the space. He has never met his father and is not even sure (only a guess) as to who it might be... We attached a note saying that. Is that still misrepresentation? Should we put down who his "guess" is for his dad.. but we don't know birth date or address or anything for him.. since he's never seen him.

Sounds like you filled that out perfectly, I would have done exactly the same thing as yourself. Whatever his birth certificate says for his father should be entered in your application. I assume his certificate says father unknown. Do not put down a guess on the application form to who his father is as this can be construed as misrepresentation. Either put N/A or a little explanation as to why his father cant be added, his birth certificate will back up the information you have provided :D

No, it's fine what you did. Guessing would have served no purpose, because what you don't know, you don't know. As long as you explained that you really don't know, there is no misrepresentation involved.

Thanks guys :) His birth certificate does not list a father, so I guess that will be supportive (I never thought of that). Thanks for the advice :)

Ok so it turns out I filled the ADDITIONAL FAMILY MEMBERS IMM5406 incorrectly.... :(

I only had my name in there as I interprested teh form as being for accompanying family members.... stupid!

I submitted my application July 11, so will still have a long wait before receiving AOR.

My question is, should I fill out the form and resend, stating my partner's and my information for them to match up, or should I wait until someone contacts me? I don't want to get into trouble for misrepresentation, and also don't want to confuse the people receiving my application if they can't match up my documents at this early stage.
Anyone with any helpful advice???
Any advice appreciated!!

And here I thought everything was sorted.... arghghghg....

Hey Bagel,

I guess many people have avoided this question as it is difficult to answer with any degree of certainty. If it were me and I had made that mistake, first of all I would talk to my wife and tell her what mistake I had made and since she is in Canada could she phone CIC (Phoning from outside Canada to CIC is impossible) for me and explain what mistake I had made and how I could rectify my error and if it was ok to send a new form in to replace the form I had filled out wrong. CIC can be helpful IF (big if) you can speak to an operator. I am sure others have filled out a form or 2 wrong before and corrected it later. Explain your situation, what you did wrong and most of all RELAX. This process is stressful enough, just be calm, explain your mistake to an operative and you will be fine. Fingers crossed bud!

Thanks for the response- and also for alerting me to the fact that I need to include family members!

I have strangely enough been able to get through to CIC if I ring from my mobile (expensive I know!) But will try doing that tonight at 8-8.30 their time... if that fails, I might need to get my partner's mom to call for me, because he is in Australia with me!

You are right- no point in stressing either... I think I make it worse for myself... I jsut really thought I had checked and re-checked everything....

If I get through to CIC I will let everyone know the response... Might be handy for others.
