Hello all,

My PGWP is expired now.

I have a TRV stamp on passport until 2029.

I applied for closed work permit with Job offer from my current employer.

Also, I got my PNP approved from Ontario, and I applied for PR last week with all the necessary documents.

Now, can I travel outside Canada for a month or so? if anyone can provide any input to this, would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance.

is it normal for the application to have no update in over 4 months? This is disheartening.
@Miss bee would appreciate any feedback

I was in the same situation as you for a couple of months until my closed work permit got approved and I decided not to go out of the country so I had no complications returning, a friend told me I could only go back to work after approval of work permit if I left the country because I would lose my "implied status". But I am not 100% sure about that information.

I haven’t received any updates for 9 months. The term “normal” seems to have no relevance when dealing with IRCC.

TRV is travel document. You are right on Maintained status. Not advised to do soo .
Travel outside Canada
A temporary resident whose period of authorized stay has been extended as per subsection R183(5) who leaves Canada will be examined on re-entry and may be allowed to

  • re-enter Canada as a temporary resident pending a decision on the extension of their study permit or work permit in Canada
  • apply for a new work or study permit at the port of entry, if eligible
Re-enter Canada as a temporary resident
Applicants may be allowed to re-enter Canada as a temporary resident pending a decision on the extension of their study permit or work permit in Canada, provided they are temporary resident visa (TRV) exempt as per section R190 or hold a valid multiple-entry visa. The border services officer will set the period of authorized stay on entry.

Temporary residents from TRV-required countries whose period of authorized stay has been extended under subsection R183(5) and who are seeking re-entry to Canada following a visit solely to the United States or St. Pierre and Miquelon are considered to be TRV exempt, as per subparagraph R190(3)(f)(ii). This interpretation of the legislation is consistent with paragraph 30 of the Federal Court decision De Brito v. Canada (Minister of Citizenship and Immigration), 2003 FC 1379. If a TRV-required national has travelled anywhere other than the United States or St. Pierre and Miquelon, regardless of whether their period of authorized stay was extended under subsection R183(5), they are not TRV exempt.

Regardless of the De Brito decision, the authorization to work and study without a permit under paragraph R186(u) or section R189 while pending a decision on an application ends on departure from Canada. If the new study or work permit has not been issued prior to the applicant’s return, they may not resume work or study in Canada until their application for renewal has been granted. Those not able to resume work must satisfy the border services officer that they have sufficient means of support and that they will not study or work without authorization.

Looks like you are still being checked for Criminality. Last time officer worked on your application was April 10th . This is pretty normal. Looks like your application is in queue to assign to other officer.

I am trying to fill the Schedule A – Background/Declaration (IMM 5669), education part, and I have some doubts. I studied 2 years of Mechanical Engineering, but haven't concluded. And then I did Business Administration and concluded. Should I mention this education that I didn't conclude? Another question: I cannot include the name of the institution or the name of the program in some fields (it says the maximum length is 24 characters). Can I abbreviate names? Example: my university name is Universidade Federal de Pernambuco. In English would be Federal University of Pernambuco. But the form doesn't allow me, so I was thinking of writing Federal Univ. of PE. Can I write only in English, or I should write the name of the institution in my language too (Portuguese)?

Yes you can . No need to mention study which you were not able to complete. You still have to mention under personal history section.
