Hi! I just got a job offer from a certain company as a medical lab assistant..

I'm confused on which NOC level it should be. It seems like clerical work to me. My target is an NOC level B.

  • Unpack and sort a wide variety of incoming specimens received from sources including physicians, clinics, hospitals
  • Confirm the accuracy of all patient information on requisitions and specimen samples, resolve any problems or inaccuracies prior to testing, and perform required data entry.
  • Prepare and sort specimens for technical analysis.
  • Train and orient new team members.
  • Perform weekly and monthly maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Conduct all work in full compliance with all laboratory safety and security policies and regulations.
Any thoughts?

Have you searched keywords in the NOC database. That is the easiest to do.

I did. It shows up under NOC 3212: Medical Laboratory Technician; however,I don't really have the employment requirements for that NOC.

"Medical laboratory technicians/assistants require completion of a college certificate program in medical laboratory science."

I finished Food Science and Technology, and have experience working in a microbiology/chemical laboratory. I guess that's why they offered the position to me.

But the term "Medical Laboratory Assistant" is on the index of that NOC. And some of the job responsibilities matches with the job position offered.
