Hi there,

I have a few questions. I'm residing in US and have a masters from a prominent US university in a discipline named "human computer interaction design". I have 2-3 years of work experience in my discipline. In industry we get the title- user experience designer, human factors engineer, interaction designer..Now the problem is I can't find a appropriate NOC number with those titles. The closest titles I could find is graphical user interface designer, web designer

I have used these online assessment tools by various attorney's and although every tool gives me favorable assessment but I really want to be very confident of the NOC code I would qualify under before I invest in such a relationship.

Secondly, I have told that one has to wait till May 1st for the qualifying NOC list to be out under FSW program. Now this is confusing as I think I might lie in multiple NOC categories and how does it work out, especially if I want to make sure I have my application as one of the first one's but a NOC number I had been planning under might not come under FSW list for this year. This makes a difference as I might have to send my application with relevant work experience letters from US employers.

Your help is highly appreciated. Thanks!

FYI - it's quite possible there may be no NOC list this year. CIC may be waiting until 2015 to reopen the program under EOI.

Thanks!

I have heard about this expression of interest starting in 2015. Although, personally I don't have much hopes with my specific job title being there even when the system changes as very few people actually have professional qualification in the work I do. Everyone these days claims to be a designer :) I'm hoping that this year they do have a NOC as it seems the last hope :)

Anyways, How important is for the job title to be exactly the same? I'm requesting some employers to give me a experience letter which can possibly have job duties similar to the work of graphical user interface designer or web designer. I did perform the duties exactly similar to those professions but I don't want to ask them to change job title as I have good relationship with most of my past employer's and I want to do things by the book..

Secondly, I have one employer with whom things didn't end up on a positive note and the experience letter they provided me is extremely generic- start date, end date, a generic consultant title and signed by HR head, company name, website etc.. are all there but FSW document checklist asks for more details like duties. I will still manage to get 2-3 years experience letter's even if I don't consider this employer but the problem is this employee is right in middle of those experiences. So I guess I might have to provide this experience letter which is generic and other one's which are more specific according to FSW guidelines. If i include this employer my experience will run into 3-4 years range. Is this a reason for concern?

I'm presently trying to make up my mind if investing money and energy into the Canadian immigration is even worth it. I like the idea of it as I will have to wait for decades to get a EB2 US GC.

Hello andriod86

In my humble opinion, people like you with very specialized fields have a much better chance at securing a job with a Canadian employer. It is therefore advisable to contact potential employers in Canada who are willing to get an LMO for you.

It is important to remember that even if Federal program doesn't open in 2014; some provinces might open their doors to immigrants. So better keep an eye on that.

Regarding the problem of a generic experience letter, there is a way around it. Ask some senior colleague in that firm who is still working there to write the letter in required format on the company letter head or a stamp paper. Then you may attach this secondary letter with the primary letter from HR for your application.

Thanks @ESZB.

Our profession is starting to get noticed in design community but in US itself there are about 10 schools which give this training. So from a industry perspective when the demand is much higher they simply have to hire self-trained workforce :) Your point about finding Canadian employer is probably worth exploring more..

I imagine a world where visa and passports are a thing of past :p

Hey @android86!

Did you ended up applying? Can you please advise what NOC code did you use? I would really appreciate it.

Many thanks,

P.

Hi,

I work as a project manager for industrial projects. My duties include planning, co-ordination, scheduling and overall execution of the contract. Recently I have been working in an engineering firm (5 years). what should be my NOC? I saw the engineering Manager NOC but it is not quite matching.

Hi,

I have been reading about NOC. Can anyone advise what should one select if the job profile changed within 4-5 years. Is it necessary to select multiple NOC's. If yes, then please suggest how can one justify the change in NOC as it has actually changed the level.(0,A,B,C)

I have an overall exp of 9 years. Is it mandatory to show the overall experience of 9 years because even if you are showing an experience of 6+ years, you are still eligible to get full scores on your work experience section. Also, can one add/remove the work experience after receiving an ITA?

What if the NOC only matches with my current profile or with my previous profile. What if I do not get the exact NOC that would suffice my current profile or my Roles and Responsibilities.

Looking for a satisfactory response as it is a bit confusing when you have to manage your file on your own.

Thanks in advance!
