Hello to all,
I currently Work as an in Inspection Engineer in an Oil Refining Company.
These are my main job duties:
• On-stream Inspection of operating units and systems; static equipment including pressure vessels, heat exchangers, air fin coolers, columns, fired heaters, stacks, tanks, miscellaneous equipment and piping to ensure compliance with standards, codes and specifications.
• Identifying areas of special concern and deterioration (e.g., dead legs, injection points, corrosion under insulation, erosion & corrosion/erosion), preparation of inspection procedures and advisories to follow-up their resolution to improve plant integrity.
• Determining repair/ replacement requirements, remaining service life and performing retirement thickness calculations of equipment and piping based on inspection findings and operating conditions.
• Specifying and witnessing pressure tests (hydrostatic and pneumatic) of equipment, piping and pressure safety valves.
• Issuing inspection reports of equipment and piping.
• Determining critical equipment and piping and defining type and frequency of tests required as per codes and standards.
• Establishing appropriate Inspection / NDT plan for equipment and piping based on code requirements, executing and supervising inspection activities during plant / equipment inspection.
• Selection and supervision of Conventional NDT (UT, PT, MPT & RT) and Advanced NDT (Phased Array Ultrasonic, TOFD, Automated and Remote Ultrasonic Testing, Magnetic Flux Leakage, IRIS, ACFM, LRUT) techniques based on process streams and equipment/piping, including review of interpretations.
• On hands experience of Thermography of Furnaces, Reactors, Boilers etc. to assess the condition of refractory and/or to identify hot spots.
• Reviewing welding procedures including heat treatment requirements.
• Inspection of paint condition and conducting quality control checks as and when required.
• Specifying procedures including welding, painting and related QA/QC for repair works.
• Preparing turnaround scope of work for maintenance activities based previous equipment history.
• Inspection of equipment and piping during shutdown complemented with NDT.
• Preparation of post shutdown inspection reports with all observations, abnormalities and repair recommendations for long term remedial actions.
the education and work experience required by the employer for entry into the occupation; and Education:
Bachelor in Metallurgical or Mechanical Engineering.
Work Experience: 5 years’ inspection experience, preferably in an oil/gas or petrochemical industry.
