Hi,

I am working as a postdoctoral fellow in Quebec. Recently, I got invitation for CEC but I am not sure which NOC code to use. Is it 4011 (University professor) or 2121(Biologist and related scientist). My job duties are more related to research and not teaching/supervising students.

I am confused what to mention as some posts advice to use 4011 and some say mention more close to your job duties?

Please advice

Thanks

You must be mentoring students in lab, helping them with projects etc. Try to incorporate few sentences when you ask letter from your supervisor. In my case, on my work permit, Postdoctoral fellow is clearly stated so I used NOC 4011.

Hello, can someone help me please , I'm confused between two noc code.
During my 4 years of doctoral studies, I carried out research tasks in the biological sciences applied to physical activities and I was paid. I put the NOC code 21110 – Biologists and related scientists since my activities are based only on scientific research and not on teaching. Now after I received an ITA, I am confused between NOC code 21110 – Biologists and related scientists and NOC code 41201 - Post-secondary teaching and research assistants since both are based in research !
Can somebody help me please

You match your duties to the NOC. You have to decide which NOC matches your job.

yes i have put NOC code 21110 – Biologists and related scientists but it is acceptable when i did my phd studies ? there are those who say that when you are a phd student you choose the NOC code 41201 - Post-secondary teaching and research assistants!!

Depends on your job. If your job responsibilities match the NOC then not an issue. They are two different NOCs, in 2 different categories.

So if i was a phd studient and the job responsibilities match with biologist and related scientists in my reference letter it is ok i put it. Knowing that in the
Employment requirements in canada they mention:
  • A bachelor's degree in biology or in a related discipline is required for biologists.
  • A master's or doctoral degree in biology or a related discipline is required for employment as a research scientist in biology.
  • Post-doctoral research experience is usually required before employment in academic departments or research institutions.
For me i have a master in exercise physiology, and after a phd student in biologiy applicated to physical activities when i got my work experience

For EE, education does not have to match the NOC.

So you are applying under FSW with one year of paid, continuous, full time experience. What is your question about that stream?
As i told you ,

some person advise me to change this NOC code to 4012 - Post-secondary teaching and research assistants because in the employement requirements in cada they mention:
  • Enrolment in a university or college program is required.
I'm very confused

The initial post is asking for NOC for a postdoc fellow, which is now NOC 41200 - University professors and lecturers
see this official link:
https://www23.statcan.gc.ca/imdb/p3VD.pl?Function=getVD&TVD=1322554&CVD=1322870&CPV=41200&CST=01052021&MLV=5&CLV=5

So:
1) If you have a postdoc status, you should choose the same, i.e., NOC 41200 - University professors and lecturers.
2) If you haven't obtained your PhD yet, you should choose NOC 41201 - Post-secondary teaching and research assistants
