Hi! I will be applying for PR under CEC next month. I came to Toronto on ICT last year. On my work permit that is stamped on Passport, it is printed W1 category worker and the work permit the immigration officer gave when I first landed in Toronto mentions occupation as Economic Development Officers! My designation in my company is Deputy General Manager (which is on the ICT letter as well). My role is IT sales. So which NOC code would be applicable to me while applying for PR?

Also do I need to get letter from all my past companies with my roles and responsibilities or only from the current company? The HR managers would have changed in the past companies so I am skeptical on getting the required letters from them. From the current company it would be easier to get.

Thanks

Hi Toronto 2013,

My apologies for delayed response to your post.

Firstly, have you searched the HRSDC website to know which job title matches the role you are performing? If no, that's ok. I can provide you the link below. You may have to spend some time there. Or I am hoping one of the good IT Samaritans on this website will respond to your post.

Since you have mentioned you are Deputy General Sales Manager, here is a relevant link from HRSDC. Check the job duties in the link and see if it generally matches to what you do. Most probably i'm wrong, but basically you've got the weblink and you can search for something similar.

http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2011/Profile.aspx?val=0&val1=0601

Secondly, you can also email HRSDC and ask for their suggestion. What NOC code will they suggest for your current position and experience. Here's the email address:

noc@workingincanada.gc.ca

(Guys, if the email is incorrect, pls do let us know here, many thanks)

Please let us know what HRSDC suggests you.

All the best Toronto2013.

Letters from employers for the last three years, not all employers you ever worked for.

Ok. I have been with my current employer for 2 years and 3 months so guess I need to go back to my past organization. Thanks for the reply.

Yes, if I were you, I would try and get that letter. If you can't attach a letter explaining why you couldn't get
it.

Hi!

I wrote to HRSDC. Here is the correct email id: noc-cnp@workingincanada.gc.ca

I did not receive any clear response from them so I am at a loss on how to choose my NOC code. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Below was my query to HRSDC:

I have searched HRSDC website for the NOC codes based on the occupation on my work permit. The occupation is specified as economic development officers which corresponds to NOC 4163. However my job responsibilities are similar to NOC code 0601. I am in an IT sales role and the NOC code 0601 comes close to that.

So while applying for PR under CEC, which NOC code should I mention? Thanks

Their response:

The National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes are determined by the Skill Type and Skill Level. The Skill Type represents the type of work performed as well as the general industry of employment, in order to easily indicate the segment of the world of work. The Skill Level represents the education required to perform the work. However, the NOC does recognize the fact that most jobs require multitasking or performing more than one duty. As a result there is a 51% rule that can be used as a guideline. Simply put, 51% of the job functions must be contained in the main duties of the selected NOC description.

In addition, please note that the final decision for selecting the most appropriate National Occupational Classification (NOC) code is each individual's responsibility as you know your education, skills and abilities better than anyone else. However, the ultimate decision remains the responsibility of Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) as they are the only ones who have the authority to determine if the information provided meets their criteria.
