Noc code 2173 vs 2174

Hello Everyone,

I have total 8 years of work ex. Initial 4 years of work ex is in NOC 2173 and next 4 years -present is in NOC 2174. Express entry score is 422


I have few questions on NOC code where I need guidance


1) Which NOC code(2173 or 2174) should I used for primary occupation to increase my chances of getting a nomination from Ontario?

2) I have been working in the same organization for last 8 years on three different job titles. It is company policy that only experience letter for current designation is issued.


I am planning to showcase 8 years of work ex. For initial 4 years I will be able to get a notarized letter from my supervisor for NOC 2173 on plain paper and for next 4 years (NOC 2174) I’ll use experience letter issued by my company. Is it safe approach to get a letter from Supervisor on plain paper or there is no need to show initial 4 years of experience


3)Does number years of work ex on particular NOC help in getting nomination?

1. Both NOCs are eligible for Ontario.
2. Its safe to get a letter from your supervisor on plain paper.
Do remember, CIC asks for Reference letter which should have list of roles and duties that you performed. So prepare accordingly.

1. Ontario nomination is not NOC based hence it doesnt matter. Your chances are equally good or..
2. Provide as per company document.

Provide documents which are verifiable and official. Notarized letter has no real meaning outside your country unless you are getting it notarized by Canadian Embassy/High Commissioner. Dont try to get this done by the embassy cause they won't vouch for anything written on the letter.
