Hello everyone,

I was working as a LAN/WAN network specialist until 2012. On 2012, I branched out to the network security field and I have still been working as "Senior Network Security Specialist".

Here are my main duties, from an ad in Indeed:

Exhibits expert knowledge of endpoint security controls, including the deployment of next generation security controls for endpoints and mobile,
Completion of a Security related certification is considered an asset (CISSP, CISA, CISM, GIAC),
Demonstrates expert knowledge of endpoint security, mobile security and network security control environments and architecture,
Experience with Firewall Policy Modeling Tools - RedSeal, Tufin, Skybox etc.
Knowledge in engineering layered DoS and DDoS attacks network level protect solutions,
Experience in security components including:
Vulnerability Assessments
Anti-Virus and Spyware
Intrusion Detection/Protection Systems
Firewalls

So my NOC seems to be more like 2171 (Information systems analysts and consultants) rather than 2181 (Computer network technicians) since 2012.

It is an important change because the skill level also changes from B to A.

I tried to get an answer from NC-NOC-CNP-GD@hrsdc-rhdcc.gc.ca, but they always send me an automatic emails saying that I need to be more clear.

What are your thoughts? Thanks.

Frankly speaking, from the JD you have shared - I won't recommend to select 2171. Mine is 2171 and my R&R are way remote from what you have mentioned.
I'm not sure about 2181 but surely no for 2171. This is just my opinion.

Hey, thanks for the reply.

2171 is a very interesting NOC, it has wide variety of titles from business management to IT consultancy. But in general, it more looks like a management level jobs, what do you think?

2281 is much more closer to my proficieny as I do not have a manager role, but there is no security related title there.

This description under 2171 seems on similar lines:
Systems security analysts confer with clients to identify and document requirements, assess physical and technical security risks to data, software and hardware, and develop policies, procedures and contingency plans to minimize the effects of security breaches.

I didn't read all the responsibilities earlier. As per above, 2171 looks ok. Dicey one though. Sorry, you need to try re-sending the email to NC-NOC-CNP-GD@hrsdc-rhdcc.gc.ca. Try for some time with more clarity if you can, else 2171 it is. :)

My duties from my employer is as follows:
  • Communicate with clients to identify network and security requirements, and perform technical solutions

  • Analyzing the customer security needs and creating attack mitigation profiles accordingly

  • Creating and maintaining secure and encrypted virtual private network (VPN) tunnels

  • Reporting security risks and security incidents to the customers

  • Creating and maintaining technical security documents and sharing them with the customers

  • Implement the procedures during security breaches

  • Install, operate, and upgrade security operating systems software and hardware to comply with customer requirements

  • Monitoring network and security systems' performances

  • Recommend security enhancements and purchases.

And my current title is Security Senior Specialist.

Do you people think it is suitable for 2171 as Security Analyst?

From the NOC 2171:
"Systems security analysts confer with clients to identify and document requirements, assess physical and technical security risks to data, software and hardware, and develop policies, procedures and contingency plans to minimize the effects of security breaches."

Hello All,

I worked as a fulltime intern for 1 year in US and was part of the SAP analysts team in the project. My responsibilities fell under NOC 2171/A but in the experience letter the HR has just wrote the generic roles and responsibilities outlined for the position at that time:
  • Support project solution design and documentation including business requirements, process definition and process flow modeling.
  • Support IT system configuration and/or ABAP development activities, including solutions in the SAP ERP system.
  • Support IT system testing activities including test script creation, execution and documentation
Can you please tell if this holds valid for 2171/A ? I am confused as they are just generic for several positions they had across various teams. Please advice.
Thanks in advance.
