Hi All,

I have completed my 2 years here in Canada on Work Permit from my Indian MNC.

My Occupation on the Work Permit says " Software Products Developer".
ITworkers code - Software Products Developer (NOC 9990.6)

Link - cic.gc.ca/english/work/itw-jobs.asp#jobs6

The NOC under which I intend to apply is 2171 which is of Information System Analyst and consultants

Now Iam concerned whether I am eligible to apply under NOC 2171 of Information System Analyst or not.
Whether this will be condiered a category change of NOC which is illegal ?

Could somebody please advice on this.

Thanks & rgds,
Sk

The NOC should match the job you were performing here in Canada (not any job that you want). Software Products Developer is NOC 2174.

http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2006/SearchKeywordResult.aspx?val11=software+developer&val12=0&val13=0&val14=&val15=0&val16=0

Thanks a lot Jes_ON.

Though my Work Permit says - Software Products Developer , I have been doing job which matches the NOC 2171.

You are right "Software Products Developer" falls with 2174.

So I must use 2174 ? NOC should be consistent with what my employer writes in reference letter or should it be consistent with WP job description ?

Pls respond. Thanks in advance.

Hmmm.... well, here's the problem... you have a work permit that authorizes you to do one job, yet you state you were doing another (unauthorized). Since only authorized work counts...

No the OP wasn't , there were 7 synthetic codes for LMO exempt software developers 9990.x . That program ended except for BC so the employer now has to get an LMO and use the proper NOC code 2172, 2173, 2174 etc.

Thanks PMM.

You are right. I have been working in BC only.

So what do you suggest ? What should be my NOC ? 2173 , 2174 or 2171 ?

My WP says - software products developer though I have been actually working as Information System Analyst.

Though Iam not sure whether my employer will give any reference letter . In case HR agrees/disargess what job profile should I be mentioning in the reference letter ( or self provided explanation letter) ???

Hi PMM,

The OP had a work permit for 9990.6, software products developer (NOC 2174), but states was actually working as an information systems analyst (not on the list of synthetic codes - but NOC 2171).

So are you saying that, since it was LMO-exempt, it doesn't matter that the OP was doing a different job than the code assigned? That would be good news for the OP...

It does matter, but I don't think that CIC will delve into it very far.

So i should use NOC code 2172, 2173, 2174 etc while creating EE profile, What should i mention in Work history (Which of these categories does NAME's job fall under ? Work Permit and LMIA required or Work Permit and no LMIA required )
