Dear friends,

I'm planning now to apply for immigration as a skilled worker. I believe that i can qualify under NOC 7312 Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanics.
i have only one concern if the immigration office will consider my experience.

I hold a Bachelor degree in Mechanical engineering but unfortunately i couldn't find work in my country as an engineer, so i had to work as a mechanic for heavy-duty equipments. my main duties at that time are identical to what in the job description of NOC 7312. after three years my job was changed to a supervisor (for about three years) and now i'm working in a new company as an engineer (since one year).

my question is , would the fact that i have and engineering degree affect my application although i have the experience of a mechanic?

i am answering this because no one has so far.I am not expert so this is just my thought (which could be wrong).

If your main duties fit 7312, and you can back it up with a letter from your employer, etc, you should apply under 7312 (if that is in the ministerial list). You should also send a letter explaining everything.

Do you have any other experience (in that last 10 years) that may fit in the ministerial job list?
To be considered a heavy duty mechanic, you are going to have to show that you had 3-5 years apprenticeship before you became a mechanic. Here is what the NOC states.

Employment requirements

* Completion of secondary school is usually required.

* Completion of a three- to five-year apprenticeship program or A combination of over four years of work experience in the trade and some high school, college or industry courses in heavy equipment repair is usually required to be eligible for trade certification.

If someone has 4 year apprenticeship after grade 10 and then after completing apprenticeship completed grade 12 and then 2 year B.A degree. Is this acceptable for NOC 7312? What will be the points for education in this case?

I think your Bachelor degree Over-qualifies you for a mechanic.
So, it should not be a problem.
