Hi 9j,

Thanks for your advise. Really appreciate your time n effort! God bless!

Hello OHM, u need not wait for your medicals to start your cred Eval coz it will
take long time then to start your career as a registered PT.

9j,
U mentioned about a post graduate program u did. Can u elaborate on that?
Is that something u did to meet ur deficits for the CE. Or it's a masters in PT?

It was a masters programme I did a few years ago. It wasn't originally intended for the purpose of credentialing. I however included it as part of my credentialing process. It it came in handy as some of what would have been deficiencies with my undergrad training were covered during the program. the Alliance will award credits for that provided detailed course descriptions/curriculum and transcripts were forwarded with the application.

Ok. According to the Alliance website, it is now taking up to 51 weeks ~ a year to complete cases that are unprecedented. Do you know of anyone from your school who completed the Alliance credentialing in the last 6 months? if you do, your evaluation might be quicker.

The situation with PTA in Canada is not yet clear cut as they are not yet as regulated as they are in the US. In relatively quieter province as in Sask, you may struggle to get a PTA jobs in privately owned clinics as PTs tend to juggle both PT and PTA roles together. You may stand better chance if you try your luck with bigger rehabilitation facilities as in retirement homes, community rehabilitation centers etc.

I wish you all the best.

Hello 9J,

one of my batch mates had applied for credentials last year and they have started working on her file in jan 2012. May be it will take some less time in my case.
Its very true wht u said, PTs are playing both roles by themselves.
Wht u suggest shud I move from this city to other? suggest which city?

regards,
Kg

Hi,

the choice of location to live is a matter of personal choice. You are the best person to decide for yourself what suits you. I will be doing you no justice if I were to give you specific guidance where to go. As you can see, I am yet to land permanently in Canada, though I have been to a few cities in Canada and fairly familiar with the general context of Pt practices especially in Alberta. If I will advice you in general terms, it will be that wherever you chose to stay/go, you should try and seek out jobs by sending CVs around and aim to get a job offer first before you decide to move there. Moving to another location in anticipation of a job will definitely challenge you both financially and emotionally.

I wish you all the best.
