Hello Guys,

In my work experience letter, my job title reads "Software Engineer" which is 2173 NOC whereas my duties are more of a software developer which is 2174 NOC, now my question is; should i select NOC 2174 since it matches with my duties and ignore the title ? but here on NOC 2174 description: http://www23.statcan.gc.ca/imdb/p3VD.pl?Function=getVD&TVD=122372&CVD=122376&CPV=2174&CST=01012011&CLV=4&MLV=4

it clearly says that it excludes Software Engineers ...

Im confused, any help would be appreciated.

hmmm just did a quick search in the forums, what came up is that duties matter more than the job title. so i guess i should go with 2174.

Don't confuse yourself.. Software engineer 2173 is fine
More or less the duties are common, overlap.

Check if you can be issued a new work exp letter...2174?

This is my case. My job title is software engineer but my duties are for NOC 2174.

Have you gotten your PR? Did you go with 2174? What duties were in your letter?

Thanks

I am still in the PR process, i got my letter from the company with duties matching both the NOCs. So you can also trying getting one with mix of both.

Yet i applied under 2173. As the title is for 2173 and some duties are shared with 2174.

Hi MZASAM,

I had started working even before completion of my Master's degree for NOC code 2174. While filling in the application, I have mentioned my start date of employment as March, 2016. I had graduated in Dec, 2015. But, I had actually started working in March,2015. The Experience letter from my Employer would also state as March, 2015. Is this going to be a problem? Will they consider my experience from March, 15 to Dec, 15 as apprenticeship and then consider the later part as actual exp. Please advise.

Hi Rohit,

Can you please update what NOC did you choose, and what was your title. I am having the same dilemma. My Title is Software engineer and I work as FrontEnd engineer (Angular,React,JQuery). I think my NOC should be in 2174.
Can you provide some guidance

Thanks

Hello,

I am post graduated from BC and applied for BCPNP by mentioning that my NOC code and title are 2173 and Software Developer. I got the nomination with No restrictions from BC, and then I applied for Permanent Residency with the same NOC code, i.e., 2173, because my duties match with this code more. However, my title is Software Developer, which is actually the title of NOC 2174. In my reference letter, my Canadian employer mentioned my title as Software Developer and added the NOC code as 2173. Could someone please suggest if this is ok?
