Hi Guys

This is all based on PGWP Open Work Permit.

From May 2015 i was working as a Software Developer and i selected 2174 as my NOC based on my roles and responsibility.
Now i got a job offer as a Sr. Solutions Designer in government in Sep 2016 , what NOC should i select.
The best one is NOC 2173 , but i heard some people said its regulated and you can not select this one as you dont have a professional engineer license
Is this the case ?

My job doesnt say i required a professional engineer license any where in the job description.

Also work history of two NOC like 2174 or 2171 oe 2173 under CEC eligible as far as i am in same skill level i.e A. ???

I have heard people are saying if you worked 6 months in one NOC and 6 months in other they wont count your experience as 1 year in CEC ??? Is it true ? (my NOC can be different but both are in skill level A )

Hi ssingh5,
http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2011/ProfileQuickSearch.aspx?val=2&val1=2173&val65=*

The above link specifies that the professional engineer license is required to approve engineering drawings and reports and to practice as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.). If this is one of the responsibilities of your job only then select 2173 else you can select based on the other codes mentioned under the section "Classified elsewhere" in the link based on the duties of your job.

The below link does not state that under CEC one must have a continuous 1 yr experience in the same NOC. So don't worry as far as you are able to show more than a year's experience in Canada as mentioned in the website.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/cec/apply-who.asp

All the best for the application and immigration.

Ah, no, not exactly. Use of the title "P.Eng." is protected and requires a license. However, it is not required to be licensed as a P.Eng to perform the jobs identified under this NOC.

If you do not have a license, then you cannot "approve engineering drawings and reports" (these cannot be part of your job duties and responsibilities), or use the title of Professional Engineer (P.Eng.). But other than that, you can use the NOC.

If the experience is in Canada, then any combination of skilled work experience is permitted. You can have two different NOCs, as long as they both are skilled.

If the work experience is only outside of Canada, and the applicant applying to the FSW program, then to qualify, a worker has to have at least one year of full-time continuous experience in a single NOC. So this does not apply to you.

Thanks So much Srinivas. This sums up everything. I was worried as my title says Sr. Solution Designer but definitely approving drawings and reports are not my duties.

Thanks So much @jes_ON. Really appreciated.

One more question, I graduated on 20 April 2015 from Masters in Canada , applied May 2 2015 for PGWP and May 5th 2015 i accepted full time job offer and started working for a company (As told to me by CIC, you can accept full time offer as long as you are waiting for PGWP)

My PGWP arrives on August 2015.
I was having all valid study + off campus work permit by that time.

Shall i select my work experience from Aug 2015 or May 2015.

As one of the person told me you should select May 2015 and the VO will himself take into consideration if he feels it has to be from May or Aug 2015.

Is that correct ? Any help will be appreciated

@s23srinivas
Hi,
I am no expert on immigration as I am also in the PR application stage :) under the CEC who was bought to Canada last year under a work permit by my current employer.
Had I been in your situation, I would have gone with May 5th 2015 as my start date of work experience and would also ensure to make my case a water tight one by providing a letter of explanation about the situation mentioning the dates corresponding to the PGWP (application, acknowledgement, final status confirmation etc.) as well as the correspondence with CIC that mentions you can accept offer while waiting for the PGWP.
I believe you would have the T4/paystubs/letter of reference from the employer to substantiate this claim.
Best luck for the journey.

That is partly true - as long as you were no longer a full-time student, and your work was authorized, you may count it. So yes, you can count the work experience starting in May.

HOWEVER - if you should not just leave it up to the VO to figure it out. They will usually just look at the start date on the PGWP, unless you provide a good reason to do otherwise. Meaning, write a letter of explanation of why the work experience from May should count (you were no longer a full-time student, the work was authorized), and include proof of your graduation date (e.g. diploma, letter from registrar).

This question is asked and answered dozens of times each week, you can search the forum.
