I went to Western, and MSc in structures is really good, but geo-tech is better. I did M.E in structures. If you are planning to live in Alberta then UoA and UoC is a definitely better option than any other university.

As far as you have talked about age, I studied at Western and I am from Pakistan. I was 23 when started my masters and my first group mate from Pakistan was 56, so I do not think that really matters, as long as you are good at studies and helpful. You'll find every age group at masters level.

wish you luck
Hey,

Thanks. This information is quiet helpful.

Do you know any good university to pursuit master in planning?

I have a structural background, but intend to change my field now.

Thanks for the info. The only reason I asked about the Indian student demographics was that Indians have a tendency to finish their education at a stretch and then focus on career. Consequently you don't find a lot of older indian students at the Masters level, at least. Maybe PhD.
Seriously considering U of A.

Mostly south Asians students finish it in one year but as per my knowledge you cannot do that for UoA and UoC since they do not offer summer courses. I finished mine in 1 year since I was ME student, not MSc. To be honest if some-one gets a good job offer they switch masters to part-time which I see as a wise decision. My bro was in McGill doing masters in aeronautical engineering, he dropped out once he got job in cenovus. He still has an engineering job without Canadian degree and I don't (or may be cause still guys are preferred in engineering jobs). Well, yeah that's true that majority Indians in masters are below 30.

wish you luck

There is no good or bad university here, just two things matter, overall ranking of the university and prefer to do the masters from the same province where you intend to settle. That helps a bit. And planning is more competitive to get in. In terms of money, the lesser the muti-cultural the cheaper it is. AS in University of New Found land in $1000 per semester for MSc while Western University is $5000 and UoC is $8000 for one year.

Thanks. Hey, are they still giving funding for masters students, like teaching assistantships, etc, or has all that stopped with the drop in oil prices? Would I need to take out a student loan or something? M.Eng is a part-time course, right? Is M.Eng offered for the structures specialization? How does it compare with and MSc in terms of acceptability in the job market? Sorry to keep bugging you with so many questions, but I feel you can never have too much information in situations like mine, where I am planning a major life change with dependents in tow.
Thanks.

I graduated in 2013 from ON and moved to AB, so do not have much idea about the funding. I do not know your financial condition that I can comment on the student loan. But if you do MSc initially you'll have to pay but then like a job it pays you stipend(how much? depending on your research) M.Eng can be full time and part time both, depends how many courses you want to do in one semester. And structures is offered in M.Eng as well.

One benefit I see in MSc is if the times like these come again of less employment opportunities you can enroll in PhD while MEng students have to do some research kinda thing first. I did M.Eng cause I had not enough brain and patience to do reasearch and I had resources to do M.Eng as an international student in one year so I chose the easier option.

Hello everyone, I am safe and so are my family but the situation overall is very bad. I slept on tent for five days due to numerous aftershocks, but back to my home now. Hope everything will be back to normal soon.
Meanwhile, CIC has facilitated priority processing for nepalese applicants who are affected by the deadly earthquake. Mailed Delhi VO according to instructions and got reply that my case will be prioritized.
All the best to everyone for future processing.
