Hi,
Below is my timeline from surrey:
applied; 18th june 2012
received: 21 june 2012
started processing: 8th june 2012
bground check completed: 5th july 2013
transferred to surrey 14th aug 2013
Surrey started processing 5th September

Called the CIC call center 3 weeks back and they sent a reminder to surrey office. Surrey office did not get back ...so last week I sent a fax. No Resonse to that as well.

I called CIC again today, and he said wait till 15th july as they need three months to respond. I said by then my background will expire. He said, "WE WILL CROSS THE BRIDGE WHEN IT COMES". For now just wait...

Any advise pleaseeee...will b e much much appreciated

1. CIC doesn't work on the basis of scheduling your tests relative to your background checks expiry dates. You are in a line for the test schedule just like everyone else...if CIC get to test date and your name is up but checks are expired then its tough luck you are put back in the line until your checks are re-run and there is space again for testing. Under ATIP releases from 2013 CIC target 9 months to schedule test from transfer date but this isn't compulsory or legislated for. So maybe June/ July you may get scheduled. The background check expiry loop is the most significant negative impact of a lengthy processing time for those classed non routine or if routine but in a snail pace Local Office.

2. Surrey like the rest of BC (and pretty much any non Ontario Local Office) has backlogs and processing is generally towards the end of the 24 month routine processing timeline quoted. Check the timelines spreadsheets on the forum and you will see your timeline is nothing outside the norm.

3. There is nothing much you can other than wait...when you get to be a citizen you can express your displeasure with the current government at the ballot box.

You can contact your MP, though no guarantees he/she will do anything, or better just wait tell you hit the 24 month mark (processing time for routine applications); and hopefully by then you will get updates/oath before. Once you you hit the 24 month mark, you can bug your MP again, or pursue MANDAMUS.

1. You need to do some legwork on the forum and check for threads that say 'Local Office' processing times e.g. St Claire or Windsor or Surrey etc. They usually have a link to a spreadsheet that will show applicant timelines from application sent through Local Office Transfer to Test and Oath Dates.

2. Read up on this thread for the 411 on Mandamus .

3. You can CIC everyday they are open if you want to but there is usually little of use you can get from the agents - what they see is limited. Most people want to know the 'date of the next step' - agent will just tell you within 24 months which you already know.
