Hi,

I have a problem to share and seek inputs.
My Indian passport only has my full name against GIVEN NAME and does not have anything against the SURNAME field.

Not sure what do I write in my CEC application against the SURNAME field considering that one of the form also generates Bar Code using the info entered. Please share your thoughts on the SURNAME field.

(1) Shall I just write 'Not Applicable'
(2) 'NA'
(3) Repeat my full name again in SURNAME
(4) Leave it blank.

Thanks.
Andy

I think if you don't have a surname, then leave it blank. If you right "NA or Not Applicable", the bar code generator will assume that "NA" or "Not Applicable" is your surname and will generate a barcode based on that. You don't want that to happen.

If you legally don't have a surname, then I would have left it blank. Also repeating your full name in the Surname is not a good idea.

If I misunderstood what you were trying to say, then please, re-explain it :)

Or you can contact immigration and ask them as to what their take is. You may have to be put on hold for a while though!

Thanks for your inputs.
But the problem is that the form throws up an error if I choose to leave the space in SURNAME blank. Therefore, I cannot leave the space blank. :-(

If you put Not applicable, how does the name finally show up on PR card? Do they correctly take the lastname?

Not sure on that. I got Open Work Permit for my wife recently and her WP reads her name as 'NOT APPLICABLE, XXXXX XXXXXX' (Surname, Given Name).
Not sure on how different is it on a PR Card.

In all sections of CEC application, leave the Given name (first name) column blank.
Write your full name in Family Name (Surname) column.
For CIC, first name is not mandatory. Family name is mandatory (even in ECAS).
