Thanks but during SINP I have written "Not applicable" in Last Name/Surname and provided my full name in "Given Names". will this contradict when I do it other way in CIC application?
wouldn't be an issue as this is the requirement of CIC

Don't worry

we have anaother link http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/id/name/gcms.asp
which says leave first name blank and put everything in surname.

one thing is sure that everything has to be put in surname but first name should be left blank or n/a or not applicable is not clear
Exactly, I have seen many people having the same issue.

Thanks for the another reference.

Actually even my passport is due for renewal, what I am worried about is that my IELTS is linked with present name which is Given Name "Randeep Singh" and Family name : i have put "-", would it not create a problem ?
My friend, in these kind of situations, CIC has provided an open path to add a "Letter of Explanation" to describe each and everything which is confusing or which you think would cause confusion.

Could some senior member please confirm ? Even I have the same problem, on my passport there is no last name. So I am stuck here now for applying for ECA as well as creating express entry profile.

My Given Name on passport is Randeep Singh. And no surname or last name.

So someone please suggest what name should I give in Wes form for ECA ? Firstname and lastname ? Because both are mandatory.
And same for Express entry profile.

Question: I only have one name. How do I fill in my online account?

Answer: Please fill in a hyphen (-) for your last name if you only have one name.

Hi Friends,
I just found an authentic answer on CIC website.

What do you mean by surname?

Your surname is your family name. It is sometimes called your “last name.” If your name is spelled differently on your official documents, please write your name as shown in your passport. When filling out applications, type your surname as it appears on your passport, travel or identity document or any letters you got from the visa office or case processing centre where you sent your application (even if the name is misspelled). Do not use initials.

If you do not have a surname on your passport, travel or identity document, enter all your given name(s) in the surname field, write “not applicable” or “N/A” in the given name field.

Nick,

Small correction and contradiction here... the link

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/questions-answers-by-topic.asp?st=4.2 says as follows :

Quote:

If you do not have a family name on your passport, travel or identity document, enter all your given name(s) in the surname field and leave the given name field blank. Do not enter “*”, “Not applicable” or “NA”.

Unquote.

I mean, they say DO NOT ENTER “*”, “Not applicable” or “NA” in the Given Name. But given name is also mandatory.. so what do we enter there??

Someone suggested to enter the full name at both the places... looks like that is the best option.. What say?

Mention your Given Name/First name in the place of the last name. From what I know, the Given Name/First Name field is NOT mandatory while the Surname/Las Name/Family Name field is MANDATORY. So, enter your given name/First Name in the last name/Surname/Family Name field (leaving the first name field blank)and attach a Letter of Explanation that describes your situation.

Good luck!

Seems they have updated the answer with "Do not Enter" etc. etc. on the website

I think they must have updated the functionality of the forms also,

Try leaving the FIRST NAME field blank and
Put complete name in the SURNAME field.

As I know, First Name field was Mandatory too. Don't know about the present.

Just I have one Question.

I plan to split my name in Indian Embassy and get the new passport which will take only 10 days and then I'll apply to CIC and WES.

But my Ielts and all experiences are in the old passports is it an issue ??

Should I change the Passport or apply with the old passport by keeping the surname as mentioned in all of the posts.

Thanks,,

Hi Experts /Asivad

I am facing the same issue where I don't have last name.As per the CIC information in the link below , if I put Given name in the Surname and keep Given Name blank , the system doesn't allow me to proceed.

Can I put Given name in both the places ???

Pls. suggest.

Thanks, so from latest 2 replies it looks like this:

For IELTS and WES: Use given name for given name and (.) or (-) for surname/family name.
For CIC Express Entry: User given name for Surname/family name but for First name got three options from all replies in this post : x or Not Applicable or N/A ??

Is my that understanding clear?
I had the same problem with my spouse name. I gave Surname as Given Name in passport and first name as 'Not Applicable'. Don't worry CIC accepts this and we got PR. :)
Only thing is if any of the name is missing the CIC algorithm will automatically request you for an RCMP check (If you are already in Canada) on a later stage of your application.

You don't need RCMP before submitting application. They will ask you later.
Yes, for the name clarification we attached a letter of explanation because when we did medical check, they entered the name as it is in passport.
