Last year it was told the government of Canada is introducing important changes to the rules for international students.

The proposed regulations, pre-published in the Canada Gazette Part I on December 29, 2012, have now been approved. We expect the final regulations to be published in the Canada Gazette Part II on February 12, 2014.

The coming into force date for these regulations, as stated in the final regulations themselves, has been scheduled for this spring, more specifically, June 2014.

Some of the changes that will be introduced are:

- Eligible international students attending designated institutions would also be able to work part-time off-campus, without having to apply for a separate work permit
- These changes would provide CIC the authority to request evidence from study permit holders to verify their compliance with study permit conditions. International students would be removed from Canada if they fail to meet new requirements.

CITE YOUR SOURCE!!!!

And I don't mean the link to the proposal. I want to see a source to the information that it will be posted in the Gazette on feb 12. A link to an official source.

I ran in to one of the international advisors on campus yesterday who said that he did not think it would come in to effect soon because the application fees for permits had just gone up. His theory was that the government would milk the most out of that before they put the proposed changes in to effect.

So DO cite your source. Without your source this means nothing.

And June is not soon. In June, I will be in the middle of my summer break. I will have my work permit already. Like pretty much everyone who started studying in september 2013.

And just like in class, read carefully. The link is there.

However, the list is what is valid currently. The list could change when the proposal goes through.
