Hi everyone,

I am looking to get a LMIA-exempt Temporary Work Permit (via NAFTA) .

The employer is in the process of registering with the CIC Employer Portal. They were able to complete the first step of the Employer Portal Guide: "Get your credential to access the portal". After logging in, they completed the next step: "Complete an enrolment request". It looks like the enrolment request was submitted (the Portal gives an application number along with a submission date); however, they have not been informed whether or not the request has been approved (per the CIC website, an email should be sent after the request has been processed).

The enrolment request was submitted on December 29 and there still has been no email. The employer has called the CIC several times; the general response is that the CIC representative is unable to view or access the enrolment request. On the last call, the representative instructed to log a "technical issue" by sending an email to the CIC. The employer sent an email describing the technical issue; still awaiting a response.

Feeling pretty dead in the water. There appears to be no transparency in the process. Not sure what to expect (how long to process? was there something wrong with the enrolment request?).

Is anyone experiencing similar issues? Have any recommendations on how to proceed (who to contact, alternative actions)?

Any help is greatly appreciated; thanks in advance!

Ok, did some more researching today as I still didnt have an email etc.

It will not give you approved/not approved, you only need the number that says it has been submitted to actually apply.

Hi guys,

Any relevant / important updates in this matter? How did your applications go? Did you get any emails from CIC?

Thanks,

I've got everything together to be able to go to the border and get a visa issued - the system doesn't give you any approval etc, the border guys just need the number confirming that it has been submitted.

Thank you, ozlis! We would appreciate a lot if you could share with us your experience at the border, e.g.

1. When I go to the border to do this, do I need to leave Canada and come back or just go into the office from Canada side?

2. I thought we can only go to the border when there's no information to be verified, like, post-graduate work permit. so in our case, we can go to the border too?

3. what documents did you provided to them?

Thank you again and hope everything goes well with our work permit! ;D

My employer just submitted a request last week. Wonder how long it will take to get a response? Look like it's going to take a LONG time.

No response from the job offer or the actual employer portal registration? It shouldn't take longer than a day, make sure that they follow the instructions here as it is pretty well instant.

Will do, going this Saturday.

If you are applying for an LMIA exempt permit and are from a visa exempt country you can apply at the border. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/apply-who-eligible.asp

I mean I'm waiting for the Offer of Employment Number. How long does it normally take?

It is automatic as soon as they pay the fee. If they login in to the portal and check the submissions that they have done, it is the number starting with A.

Thank you soooooo much! So I just need to put that number in the application form and send out the application package?
So, what's the "email" you all were talking about? At first, I thought the employer was supposed to get an email from CIC with that number in it.

Yep, that is all you need.

We were all waiting for an email until we realised that you actually dont get anything through from the system!
