I am due to be coming to McGill on exchange for the 2011/12 academic year from Edinburgh University and have applied for my CAQ which only arrived in the post a few days ago.I have now completed the online application for a Canadian Study Permit and this takes 56 days to process, but I have a flight booked for 16th August as I need to find accomodation etc in Montreal. Basically the study permit won't arrive before I am due to fly. I have done everything as quick as was possible considering the acceptance letters only arrived at the end of May. In short is there a loophole whereby I can enter the country without a study permit but with proof of my place and bank statements etc? Or should I pretend to be a tourist?

Many thanks,

Alex Reynolds

Where do you think you are applying for Study Permit as London doesn't have online applications you either submit it to London, by mail, or drop box http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/united_kingdom-royaume_uni/visas/apply-how_demande-comment.aspx You are trying to send it to Vegreville aren't you?

There is an option on the CIC website for online application which I have used. I assume this goes to the London office to be processed...

Sorry you assume wrong. You have to follow the instructions for the London office to submit your application.

alexr is correct PMM citizens of certain countries can now apply online

You may apply online if:

your field of study does not require a medical examination;
you are over the age of sixteen;
you have no accompanying family members; and
you live in and are a citizen of the following countries: Australia, Barbados, Denmark, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Republic of Ireland, Sweden and USA.

I suggest that you continue on that link and read submitting an application at this office. http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/united_kingdom-royaume_uni/visas/apply-how_demande-comment.aspx

Yeah PMM, that is if the applicant wants to apply directly through the Canadian High Commission in London either in person or by post. But there is an online application options for citizens of certain countries.

I think it is more clearly stated in this link rather.

I stand corrected.
