it's true. Please refer to a thread starting by another user regarding the same and you will find the link in the thread leading to CIC (not CHC) website as well stating the same.

Now, the only confusion at the moment is for the students of September intake. As they will be completing 4 months by January 2014, will they need to wait for another 2 months or if it is also applicable for them too (though it doesn't really make much difference, they will only have two months leverage, for september 2013 intake students).

Hope it helps.

Cheers!

Could you please post a link to that thread ? On www.cic.gc.ca there is still ":•have been a full-time student for at least six of the 12 months preceding the date of your work permit application" http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-offcampus-who.asp

Hello Regina,

Here you go. There are two links, first one is of CIC and then same is being supported by a law firm talking about the amendments effective date to be jan 2014. Now this wait period of 6 months most likely will be off and international students who hold a valid study permit for program of at least 6 months duration can start working off campus from day one in Canada for 20 hours a week and needn't apply for OCWP separately which saves money and time of Candidates.

Hello, i m vikash from Mumbai. I have a query
The course i want is of 1 year "mobile and social media management" in Algonquin college.
The approximate expense is for this course is 13 to 14 lakhs (CAD $16000+) (including living expenses)

But i want to go for 2 years programs so i can get 3 years PGWP.

Can i take 1 years program "mobile and social media management"(1 year course) at Algonquin college and after completing it, i m thinking of taking admission to second year of "Interactive multimedia"(2 year course). Is it possible to do that? with this i can fulfill criteria for 2 years of study to get 3 years WP.

Can anybody suggest me a way how to get 3 year work permit?

Can i work and get money to pay for my second year? Is it possible to earn enough with on campus and off campus jobs.?

No, your program has to be 2 years from the very beginning. (however, it could be 1 year certificate laddered into 2nd year - for diploma . It will be another process of admission to the university and a new study permit). Amount of on campus jobs are very limited. And it is extremely difficult to study full time and work 20 hrs off campus. Besides working 20 hrs per week you will be able to earn only around $10,000.00 CAD a year (min wage of $10.00).

for three years Work Permit, student should be enrolled in two years program (minimum 4 regular semesters). Now, doing this one year diploma then another 1 year diploma, there is no such rule that you get three years work permit. There have been candidates who got three years work permit by doing what you proposed and some got only two years work permit! So it depends on case to case and location to location. For example, if one pursues 1 year diploma say International Trade Management at St. Clair which is of three semester (one year diploma but no gap, it's of three semesters) then if one completes another 1 semster program (fine arts in Ontario), he/she is eligible to apply for three years work permit. Hence, the outcome doesn't depend on just one factor but many.

Cheers!

Thank you Regina and Sabby2612 for replying, it helped me to clear my doubts..

The course i m interested in is only for 1 year and its in Algonquin college, Ottawa, ON, Canada. I will be able to get 1 year work permit, if i m able to get a job offer, would i be able to apply for pnp program in this area and apply for PR. In the link given below, i see their is no information mention about requirement of minimum 6 months on job for Ontario PNP. So if i get a job offer, i can apply for PNP ASAP.

I just want some way to earn at least half of the loan i m taking so please bear me and answer my doubts. Will be grateful to all..!!
