Just got off the phone with the CIC and they told me it's all the same paperwork, but WHERE you SEND it to decided if it's inland or outland.
She said as of a week ago, the processing time will be the same and it's about 12 months.

I haven't gotten to look at the addresses myself, but I wonder if either of them are the old address and if sending it there would be relatively quicker since that's where they're probably use to processing applications.

Anyone have any ideas? Or suggestions for those of us who can apply inland OR outland.
I remember being told since I was an American student. I SHOULD apply outland since It'd be much quicker.

I've been continually told that it makes much more sense for Americans to apply outland (4 months vs 1 year+ processing) regardless of if you stay with your Canadian spouse or not in Canada. However, this was before the changes with the application process and I've also read that inland applicants are getting responses much quicker nowadays.

I suspect that no one will really have any answers until months later after this transition to the new process has taken flight. My wife (American) and I chose to go with the old Outland application since CIC will still accept it until the end of Jan 2017 to avoid all the new changes and the inevitable bugs that it'll have.

The addresses to send to for Outland vs. Inland are the same as before, and that hasn't changed about the new application process.

where did you hear that you can still submit the older application?
My issue is time. I just would like to to go as fast as possible. Do you think even submitting the old application would result in a faster processing? or do you think it wouldn't make a difference since they're all being processed the same

on top of the fact that we wouldn't even be able to find the old forms anymore. Not that it would matter since the new forms are easily available and there is far less to fill out.
It's just confusing now on what to send. will 20 pictures be enough to show proof of relationship in that respect? are they more lenient now?
we're sending in our entire facebook message history, text message history, call logs, rental agreement, all receipts from the last year. and now only 20 of the best picture that show proof of our relationship.

I guess I'm just frustrated that it seems like we're guinea pigs now for this new system...

The new application is more streamlined and clear, but yes they are basically the same. The addresses are the same. There is still inland vs. outland, but none of us know if the timelines will be similar to what they were before. All this information is in the instruction guides, just follow along with it carefully.

The new application has a photo limit, and depending on your circumstances, you might not have to send photos at all. You also don't need to do your medical up front. Once you receive AOR, you link your app to a MyCIC account and the medical instructions go through there.

If you've already done medical and/or completed the old forms, just go with the old application. You can use the old till the end of January 2017. Or, you can attach your medical to the new application if necessary.

Hi - it was in the New application kit document that CIC had published.

The changes to the kit will include the following:
A new application kit for use by all spousal applicants. Applicants will no longer have to choose between two different kits depending on
whether they live in Canada or outside Canada. All applicants will use the same application kit.
Since some applicants may have already started filling out their application using the current kit, IRCC will continue to accept new applications using the current kit until January 31, 2017. After this date, only applications using the new kit will be accepted.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to begin using the new kit, which is easier to use and understand, as soon as it is available on December 15,2016.

Nobody knows for sure, but if you think about it, it would make sense that the old application can't possibly go any slower than the new one.
1) They're all trained to use the old forms so there shouldn't be any surprises
2) The old forms are a known commodity and there have been accounts here from others on how much time it takes to process, what's involved in them, how to fill them out properly, etc...

The timing is off, I agree. I was frustrated too when the new changes were announced given we were so close to submitting our application. I guess the plus is that the burden of proof for Canadian-American spouses has always been quite little compared to others, so in theory, it should be ok regardless. I'm in the mind of "more is more" though :)

Good luck whatever you choose to do. If you do happen to want a copy of the old instruction guides, I can send them your way. Have them saved for this reason alone - knew that CIC would take off links to the old forms after posting new ones.

it is quite clear on the checklist. there are 3 different classifications for the applicaiton, and mailing instructions are provided for each classification. i'd recommend looking at the checklist. there is no "inland" or "outland" technically, though there is still "in family class" and "family class". the distinction is made by checking a box on the checklist.

In the new package there is a selection (a series of boxes, and you pick one) for which type of application you want to submit -- In Canada class of Family class.

Yes, and the addresses are the same. If the OP followed the guide and read the application they would see that.

Thank you all for your replies.

So We've decided to go with the new one.
While submitting up to 20 photos maximum. we're still going to include all of our text messages printed out
our facebook messages printed out.
Phone record.
and some screen shots of social media and plane tickets.

I did already do my medical and Background check. Should I just send it in with this new application?
I'm still stuck on the more is more mindset as well. I'd rather them throw out half the stuff we send vs. them contacting us and asking for more..
