Hello,

I am a single mum, about to apply for citizenship for myself and my son, who stays with me. My ex husband and I share the custody of our child, but we don't have any legal documents stating the same, as in our country of origin its not mandatory to have such a document as long as both the parents are on the same page. Kindly guide as to what documents we need to provide in this case where we have no custody documents and need to show consent of ex husband in applying for son's citizenship.

For citizenship doesn't look like that's a requirement but would be when you apply for Canadian passport later.

To add to the previous comment from @forw.jane, you won't need any custody document for the passport application either as long as both parents are signing the kid's application. It may require sending the passport application by mail if the ex-husband leaves far from you but that's about it.

Hi there, yes it isn't a mandatory document, but i thought it needs to be sent as an optional document regarding the custody.
