I was approved as a sponsor on September 26th. My husband resides in Cuba.

As of yet, I have not received an AOR (acknowledgment of receipt) nor did I get my DND (do not disturb date). I've spoken to other people with similar timelines and whose spouses are Cuban as well, and all of them have received a letter indicating that their file is in process but I have received nothing at all.

I called CIC and asked them if this is normal and the lady who spoke to me said that it happens sometimes. She was a bit vague, so I don't know what to think. I don't want to email the embassy as I've heard this may delay things tremendously and I'm not risking it.

I sent in the application for my CSQ a little late because I was out of the country when I was approved. Nonetheless, I have it now and furthermore, the lady told me that a delay in the CSQ doesn't make a big difference as they start on your application with or without it. They just cannot finalize everything until it's in their possession.

So is this AOR optional? Do they send it only if they feel like it? My ECAS has been the same since I was approved. It merely states that it was received July 14th and a decision was made on Sept. 26th concerning sponsorship, and that medicals have been received.

My husband is not in the military so it's not as if there's a million security things to investigate!

I know patience is needed to survive this roller-coaster ride but I'm curious to what some of you think or have experienced!

Did you get a letter telling you that you were aproved as a sponsor? How about a letter telling you that your file is going to be transfered?
If your file has been transfered I don't think there's anything to worry about. But it is surprising that you haven't received an AOR. I'm not such an expert here, but maybe it got lost in the mail? Or the email went to your spam folder?

Hey,

Not everybody gets an AOR - it's optional indeed. So there is nothing to worry about... if your ecas is working and you know that the file has been approved for sponsorship, it's probably waiting for Cuba to open it... I never got an AOR from my VO, and the first time I heard about them was when I got decision made... so it might be the same for you. As long as you are within normal waiting time, there is nothing to worry about.
Good luck with your process,
Sweden

Yes, I received an email regarding the approval along with my UCI and application file number. I do check my spam folder obsessively lately. so who knows!

Yeah, I've heard about some people not receiving them. I guess it does depend on my VO. I just hope he/she is at least a happy and pleasant one! I am definitely in the normal time range but it's frustrating! I'd like to go visit him but I want to be there for the possible interview/visa handout, because it's such a huge moment! Right now I feel like I'm stuck because what if I go and come back and then they call him? Quite the conundrum! I'm no millionaire!

Thanks for your encouraging words! ;D

Just an update for those who may be seeking similar information in the future and come across this post...

I never received an AOR or DND but my husband was called on January 7th after about 6 months since the application was sent. He was given his visa 10 days later! Also, my ECAS did not update until about a week after this and it's saying that they started processing my file on the day that he received it, so please don't rely too much on ECAS!

So, if you hear nothing, it's definitely not a bad sign. Hang in there! :)

Hey congrats! great to hear that it went well - mine was the same... I had application received and no AOR for a while, and one day "decision made", and that was it! ( no passport request as I'm from a visa-exempt country).
So indeed - sometimes no news is good news, especially if it's a rather straightforward file.
Good luck to your husband for his "new life"!
