Near the end of question 7 in the checklist it asks to provide 2 of the 3 options to assure we have a legitimate relationship. One of them says "Important documents for you and your spouse showing that you are recognized as each other's spouse (such as employment or insurance benefits)"
I don't have him in my Msp plan or any other insurance plan as he is only a visitor, what other evidence can I provide?

Another option is "documentary evidence of financial support between you and your sponsor and/or shared expenses". What can I provide for that?

Someone please help me as I am so close to being finished but I'm stuck!

Some things you may not have thought of that could possibly show the relationship between you and your partner;

- Costco membership (yep really!)
- Joint gym membership (we have a joint membership which my partner has always paid for with his credit card). The gym owner is actually a friend of ours so he wrote confirming the membership from my partners account and that he knew us as a couple..i know that that is a unique situation though!
- A joint credit card? Or are one of you an authorized user on the others card?
- CRA (or other tax) documents showing you as common law/married (i included our tax summary sheets for the past 4 years or so...im named on his, he is named on mine as common law partner)
- E-transfers between you both
- Did one of you pay for a trip that you have booking confirmation for showing both your names as "guests"
- Does one of you pay something for the other?

We dont have insurances with the other named as beneficiary nor do we have utility bills (our rent is all inclusive) so the finances part was tricky for us too.

Do you have a joint bank account?

Give what you can and anything you cant, you can put in an explanation sheet. You can only give what you've got!

Well then we'll have to sign up for the gym and Costco! Haha we have a joint bank account but he doesn't have a card or joint credit card because he is only a visitor. We have 2 cats, could we show a vet bill with both our names on it? I haven't added him to my taxes because we only got married in May 2017.
Maybe I could show receipts of when I sent him money via western union from Canada to Mexico??

Being a visitor doesn't mean that you cant have "joint" items. While i was a visitor we got a joint checking account and i am an authorized user on my partners Mastercard and his RBC Avion credit card. I included evidence of all of this.

You could inform CRA of your marital status change right now and include a copy of that letter. Or you can maybe even do it online and take a screenshot/confirmation of the change.

If your vets bills show both your names, yes include them.

My husband was a visitor when we applied and we were able to do joint everything no problem. Joint lease, joint benefits, joint bank, etc.

Thanks. What about adding him to my MSP?
You can't add him to your MSP.
Some provinces allow adding your spouse while the PR application is further down the process and some needs proof of PR.

We purchased private travel health insurance while we were waiting for my hubby's PR application.

All above suggestions are great. Just to add, this is what we also had:
- tenant insurance with both our names listed on the policy
- I was an authorized driver on my partners car insurance
- my partner was named as a beneficiary on my pension from my home country
- we were named as beneficiaries on each others life insurance
- joint credit cards
- LOTS of e-transfers between us

Just think of anything with both your names on it and add it in!

Good luck!

Thanks for all the great ideas. There are many things that we already included with both our names on it - joint bank account, vet bills, etc. I suppose we can't really use them again for a different section of the checklist?

I was in the same boat, where some items doubled up in different parts of the checklist. I didn't include them twice, I figured that once they deem the application complete (that is, you have met the criteria of the checklist), they will consider the application as a whole so it won't matter much where in the order of documents you put things!

Wow, thanks for great ideas! :)

How can you show joint Costco membership and e-transfers though? I have both, but not sure as to what exactly should I use to show it...

Costco membership you can log in to your costco account online and there is a section where it says "members within household". I printed that screen. I think i also included scan of costco membership card and the mastercard we have through our costco membership (I am registered user on his card).

E-transfers i didnt include many of but i just printed off the email that said "xxxx has sent you an e-transfer" and then i wrote on it what it was for. As i said i dont think i included many as we dont typically send money to one another.
