NJ Police PCC . Someone please help

I need the PCC from state NJ and I checked their site. It says the following.

"Out Of State Residents Requesting A New Jersey Fingerprint Based Criminal Background Check
If you need a background check within the state of New Jersey but are no longer a resident, please call the Division of State Police, Criminal Information Unit, (609) 882-2000 Ext. 2918. We will supply you with a package, including a fingerprint card and full instructions."

However, on calling (609) 882-2000 , from India, it says this telephone is disconnected or no longer in existence. I've been trying for last one week. Since this is the only option to proceed for a PCC for NJ, anyone has any clue as to how to proceed ?

I just called the number (from Canada), it worked fine. Silly question, but did you first dial the country code (001)?

I spoke with the person, they don't have an email address, but you can send a letter via fax to:

State of New Jersey,
Division of State Police
Criminal Information Unit,
fax (001) 609-530-5780

In the letter, you should request the package for an Out of State Resident criminal records check, including a fingerprint card and full instructions. Be sure to include your mailing address, and sign the letter.

If you have friends or relative in USA; I would suggest you to give their address for communication.
when you call NJ Police dept.; you can ask to send package ( they send everything, finger print card & application form) to your friend/relative in USA.
then they can send it to you in India.
while filling form you can mentioned USA address for report; you can directly send that to mentioned address in NJ.
Report would be sent to USA address; which can be further sent to you.

reason - they will send it (package & report) by USPS & ordinary mail in India;I never had bad experience with USPS but unfortunately Indian Postal service is very unpredictable.

Thankas Pooja and Jes. I had added the country code 001, but still the call did'nt go through. Did you try calling this number recently ? Let me try the fax then. Since they are insisting that the applicant himself has to call them I am wonsering whether they require any personal info like SSN , period of stay, address of stay etc. If there is any such requirement please let me know. Else I am faxing the request by today evening.

Ynet - The NJ phone number works just fine; I just tried it. Maybe you can try using a different phone service provider in India - if you are using Airtel try Reliance or BSNL or MTNL.

Yne - I called just before I posted. You don't need any personal information to request the package, but no doubt you do when you complete it. Good luck!
