If I just do a simple nikah ceremony in Pakistan with few relatives present (no walima or anything else), would there be any issue when sponsoring my spouse? Do they really need to see pictures of everything?

If you do simple nikkah then make sure you collect tons of proof and state in your application that you are intending to do rukhsati and walima at a later date.

I would suggest go for full marriage, it will save you lots of time and hassle.

Do not present your case as marriage when you have only done nikkah, that will be misrepresentation!

Also they might right away refuse the case because I've read some appeal cases on Canlii.org, where the officer refused cased because it did not meet "marriage requirements"

Would strongly not recommend doing a simple ceremony unless you have a very good reason for not doing so.

Agree with what mikeymike said!!

And I would also like to point out that the immigration officer dealing with your file will be familiar with customs and traditions. In Pakistan, it isn't uncommon to have a small ceremony. Even if you say you have tight budget, they still expect more than your immediate family to attend the marriage, because that is the tradition in Pakistan. If they find anything that is not done according to the culture/tradition and religion, it will raise red flags with CIC.

Almost no answer is good enough when you get asked "so why didn't you do rukhsati?" You better have a rock solid reason.

My reason is that I have very little time this time and my plan was to do the walima/rukhsti at a later date (December). Not sure how I would prove that to the immigration officer.

Why you have little time? Not enough money? They might ask why not just wait until a later time to do it instead of rushing it, they might think you're rushing it just to get the PR quicker.

My trip is only a week long and I can't do everything in short time. I have some other things to do as well.

Then file for sponsorship after you have done rukhsati and waleema. Anyways processing is fast now 6-8 months so you wouldn't be waiting for too long after marriage.

I only had the Nikah ceremony, but my wife is Indonesian and Walima and Rukhsati are not customary there. We did not have the customary Javanese ceremony and explained that my wife's father believes it goes against the beliefs of Islam. We also explained that my wife and I both wanted to have the Javanese ceremony as well as the Nikah but we respected the wishes of her father. We did have pictures taken with 3 sets of traditional clothing and we also had a rather large reception. I agree with the other posts that you should definitely have the full customary wedding ceremonies if possible.

In my point of view and experience of members on this forum. It's a big mistake to do nikkah only and even simple nikkah mean delay in application and a lot questions by officer.
I don't know your situation but in less time and less budget still we make good nikkah ceremony.
Another option you should apply when you done valima and rukhsati in December trust me otherwise yout file may get more delayed.
They even want your honeymoon photos and hotel booking papers.
It's my point of view next upto u.
Best of luck

Hi,

Mine was a nikah only case.

But as has been mentioned in the previous posts, if you are going to apply with Nikah only, make sure that you say so on the application forms. Misrepresentation of any kind, i.e, trying to portray it as a Rukhsati might get you in trouble during the process it self, and lead to incessant delays and even refusal.

In my case, we mentioned clearly that we have had a simple Nikah function in Pakistan, and we plan to have the Rukhsati at a later date, i.e, beginning of 2016. In November 2015, I was asked by the LVO to provide proof of continued relationship, any meetings etc, and the plans for the final marriage ceremonies (Rukhsati & Walima)

Since we had already had it planned for March 2016, and had ample proofs for continued relationship, I submitted a detailed reply in November 2015, and upon the receiving of these documents, I was asked to appear for a Re-Medical, and was issued the visa in 30 days from the time of my Re-Medical.

Hope this helps!
