Tito,

Please did you go about obtaining driver's license on your settling?

Thanks

barsindoo,

Steps highlighted below:

- I sent in my Naija driver's license to the Naija embassy, Ottawa for a letter authenticating the license (required if you claim 3+ years of driving, not necessary if you are starting Ontario driver testing from scratch). FRSC should have done that but for my refusal to cooperate with egunje!
- Took the letter from the embassy to the test centre for the G1 test (G1 is a written test required for those not qualified for license exchange), did eye test and the written test. Written test is too simple and there is a support book to read ahead. Got a temporary G1 license same day and the real hard copy 10 days after..the G1 is not so useful because of the many restrictions (like you can't drive without a G license holder beside you).
- I skipped the G1 exit test required for the G2 license because I claimed about 20 years of driving.
- Booked for the G2 exit test after the Drivetest strike of about 3-4 months, did the road test (about 30-45 mins of highway, business and residential zones driving). Passed the test and got a sticker on my G1 license showing my new status; I got a new replacement full G driver's license card within 7 days. The G license is the ultimate for cars without which I couldn't get reasonable insurance for my vehicle.

By the way, I did some driving lessons to shake off some bad driving habits I acquired from the streets of Lagos. The road test examiners are unforgiving in areas that could endanger lives of other road users. The driving lesson also gave me the opportunity to have a car for the G2 exit test..

Please come with an international driver's license and plan on doing the G1 test as soon as you arrive. Either get the letter of authentication from the FRSC in naija or the embassy here..

Tito,

Thank you for prompt reply. The reply is very helpful. I shall try and deal with FRSC guys. Meanwhile my license has broken - inferior quality cards. I need to fix that urgently.

Cheers

Please has any Accra Applicant received a 2nd AOR. I am asking because my email address to which any AOR might have been sent has been compromised .I have requested for a change of email address and given them another one but still no response

There will be no response from them. Your information will be adjusted at their end.

Meanwhile most people going through don't get second AOR, I didn't. My status just suddenly showed received by visa office. I think that's all you can hope for.

Guys,

I recently got my AOR (April 13, 2010), The initial application since February 2005 is still in process, this is the 2nd application. I have booked and paid for IELTS (next available date is August 05 in Lagos).

Do you advise I sent in the documents with the IELTS registration slip, showing the exam is coming up in August? (now I have enough money in my bank statement which will not be there by August).

Or I wait till August before submitting the package (time will be running out)?

I need to take the decision right away.

thanks for your usual prompt response.

Just an outside point, depending on the city/province, you do not necessarily have to go to FRSC or the embassy to authenticate your Nigerian driving license. Your Nigerian license is enough proof that you have been driving and do not need to go thru the "New Drivers Program". Just FYI.

Ok, my story is for Toronto here. The dude specifically asked for a letter from the embassy without which he was going to send me back. Maybe folks from other locations can let us know how theirs were done.

It's good to have the letter and be safe, rather than sorry.

I will advise you start a new application process particularly if yourr wife qualifies under the 38 Noc categories. There is a fast track system in place which according to CIC will see application being processed between 6-12 months. We have seen people in this forum who got thier PR within 6months particularly through the India Visa office and the Accra visa office is not doing bad as well so please make the move if you are still intrested.

please note! you have to write IELTS exam before you submit your initial application under the new rule, Goodluck

To all of you that have the PR, congratulations.

To those of us still waiting, I wish us all the best.

I have 2 quick questions to all those that have reached the applicable stage:

Firstly, how did you get the hard copy medical request? Was this by regular post or courier from Accra? I am asking as I am about to send the full package off to Accra and wanted to be sure so that I will know which of my addresses to use as correspondence address - PO Box or home?

Secondly, DHL & Fedex are refusing to send to PO Box in Accra, any ideas? Can anyone confirm the street address for Accra, just wanted to be sure from the experience of those that have been there before me.

Peace!!!
