Dear Forum members,
I need your advice to lower my blood pressure o. I got my ppr on July 19, 2012; 3months, 8days after we went through medicals.
My wife is presently more than 36 week pregnant and I understand she will not be allowed aboard aircraft.

What do I do for me not to miss this opportunity? Appreciations for your expert advice
If you are in Lagos, you might want to go to the MMIA and ask to see their doctor. Explain your situation to her (was a she when I did mine anyway) and ask if she would give a fitness certificate for your pregnant wife to travel. If she certifies her, ten no airline will prevent her from traveling

Hi Orire,

From my experience of having kids and travelling, if I were you, I may not take this risk of travelling with a 36 weeks old pregnancy. While I do understand the complications of adding your new born to your application: it is a personal opinion to me that you are best doing this as your wife's pregnancy is so advanced.

Many people on this forum have added their new borns to their applications and gone through... It's not such a big deal and for me the safety of my wife and unborn child will come first.

The child is still going to become a canadian anyway and so are all of you so this is not a case of delay being denial. I have heard that pressurized cabins such as dat of airlines is not good for pregnant women (depends also on whether there have been any complications). I had to leave my pregnant wife and kids behind when I relocated from the UK cos d GP didn't want her to fly.

I think firstly u should get medical advice and based on that, take it from dere. A few months of waiting (if neccessary) won't hurt u, but beta prepare _M

Take care mate

My brother am sure the PPR mail would ask you to notify them if there is any change in status. Pls, pls and pls don't go and collect the visa if you are not sure you would land before the baby arrives oh. A 36weeks baby can come any day even tomorrow so I would not advise you to take the risk.

If you collect the visa and baby comes before landing you might never be able to sponsor that baby because the baby did not do medicals with you. Pa Awoderu once told us on this thread how his relative visa was withdrawn because of a similar incident please thread with caution, besides there is so much benefit that would accrue if madam gives birth to the baby here as numerous helps from friends and relatives abound as against being alone in a new country.

Also you may wish to try the option of confirming from the airline if you could still fly latest by next week which is 37 weeks which I would not advise but if you have other strong reasons you might take the risk and trust God to delay the arrival of the baby till you land. If I were in your shoe, I would inform Accra of my situation, wait till the baby arrive, do his medicals and await the issuance of the family visa it might not take beyond 90days to do all that. You mentioned you don't want to loose the opportunity please remove that concern from your mind as you won't lose it but rather just take a few more weeks.

My 2 cents

Hi Orire, congratulations once again on the arrival of your ppr.in my own opinion i would say it is risky to travel with a pregenancy of over 36weeks.the baby can come any time from now(remember 2weeks b4 or 2weeks after the EDD).you may consider deliverying your baby here and sending the baby`s update b4 relocating to canada.this will take few months unless u have other strong reasons to relocate, you can do otherwise .mostly importantly comit the situation into Gods hands.

Sir Orire,

I must have been sleepy when I typed my earlier message. I just re-read now and saw 36 weeks. Even if they allow your wife to fly you should be the person to say NO.

What you can do is call Accra and tell them you are not ready to pick up the visa now as your wife is due and you would like to include the baby in your application. They will hold it. Worst case is that your application gets delayed.

NOTE: Once you pick up your visa, your file will be closed for editing meaning you cannot add to/update the application. File is finally closed when they issue your PRC.

Thanks for the advice.

I am a medical doctor. And I am doing a postgraduate training, the certificate of which will not be recognized but the skills and experience will put me ahead of other foreign doctor inorder to get a scarce and compititive position for undergoing the same training all over again. I feel the Canadians wants our skills rather than our certificate. Its pretty tough for foreign trained doctors over there but my purpose of going their is because of my children. So that they won't go through an education system that is not recognized and later be faced with what I am facing now.

I don't know if there is a landed doctor on the thread that can advice. I am really confused and I need assistance.

I also want to ask for information on how to get assistance from IOM for travel support. I know this has been dealt with before. But i could not get to them through the number someone gave. May be I have to add a code. I don't mind if we can discuss this all over again since many will land very soon. Please let share information on IOM assistance with travelling expensis.

[/quote]
Even after visa is issued and principal applicant has not landed before baby is born, the baby can be added to the application. File is only closed when principal applicant lands.
He will need to send new family update requirement as well as the passports with the visa. Baby will do medicals, previous visas cancelled and new one issued for the baby as well. If baby ia not added and principal applicant lands, he won't be able to sponsor him in future (pheeeewww!).

But why go through this hassle if you can just tell Accra to hold on, baby is born, send updates, do meds for baby and then visa issued for everyone???
Someone went through a similar situation; note the mail from VO:
