Congratulations to HAA and african man.
My people Accra no reply my mail. I only received medical forms from them. There was no mail about PCC and RPRF.

I sent a mail to them about this a week ago and no reply yet. Pls wetin make I do now. Am in a fix.

Kfash
Congratulations on your MR. Please proceed to do the required medical examinations for you and family members without delay. It appears AVO has adopted a new policy in issuing Medical Requests (and Passport Requests) judging from the fact that all that got MRs around the same time you got were only sent the IME forms. I know a few people that got the only the forms just like you and have since gone ahead to do the medical examinations as requested by AVO. In fact one of them got the additional email requesting for RPRF, PCC, POF and updated forms last week in February.

AVO will send you the other request in due course but please PROCEED TO DO the med exams without delay while prayerfully expecting the other request from AVO. Remember timely response to AVO's request(s) is essential as well.

Cheers

Thank you naija4dLord

I put up a post on this awesome forum about what obtains over here (One size doesnt fit all )

Increase your value so that you can be marketable because there will be a point in time where opportunities will meet your preparedness
I wont put up an epistle but all I would say is get yourself updated and current in your profession.

If need to upgrade your basic Microsoft office and internet naviagation skills pls do it before you leave naija because it will cost you more when you get here and I dont know of a job you will get over here without encountering a form of programmed application or the other.

If you are an accountant start researching about CGA or CMA of the province you are destined or better still start ACCA in naija and when you get here they can convert ur ACCA to their accounting designation over here and give you your recognition .. Pls ICAN is not worthy on this matter ooo

If you studied sciences pls update and upgrade yourself or betterstill if you are a fresh grad enrol in an internship program or offer your services to learn at a company that will add value to you. it is very very tough when you have Nigerian qualifications.

For those that studied history, intl relations, english and other courses that are not professional in nature now is the time for you to change course do alot of research into how you can fit into the system and get canadian qualifications.
Also start looking at intl certifications like ACCA,CBAP,ITIL, PMP,CISA, CISSP and so on as it applies in your field.

From all that I have noticed abroad , you must have good customer service skills. i would say its from IMPORTANT to PARAMOUNT

To Nigerians being coded it happens but what can you do .. As for me I am always open to help in whatever form or area I can ...

GOD Bless us all
Good insight, thank you!

Well, my take about the Canada employment system that's causing immigrants concerns is mainly based on the Canadian Government setting very high-standards for the sector. They don't want the least but the best. Before you can get a high-profile job; they want to know your employability and want to be sure if you can truly handle the Canada-work-situation based on your work experience. That's why Canadian references are always requested for/being giving low-level security job no matter your foreign experience/asking to start with an entry level position are all ways to confirm. Also, the quality of your certification/education can't be ascertained by employers/educational institutions/hiring organisations except through international assessment. All the above would help highlight your work-experience, skills, learning ability, strengths, employability in clear and understandable terms for whom-ever it may concern in Canada.

So from my little experience and some research done so far, I'll advise to start our preparations in advance i.e. prior to our landing and set our minds to it:

1.)
Get all locally obtained post-secondary Certificates accredited right now while you are preparing to land. It'll normally comes-in handy, as it will be requested for by most employers/educational institutions for entry level positions/if you want to further in your education. Also be prepared to hear that you will require retraining in Canada.
Foreign credential recognition continues to be a major hurdle for highly qualified immigrants trying to work in their field. There are many credentials services(you can consider WES: www.wes.org / ICAS: www.icascanada.ca) and various costs involved so start with your relevant licensing/regulatory associations for initial information.
www.cicic.ca/403/occupational-profiles-for-selected-trades-and-professions.canada

2.)
There are some people on this forum that got jobs within weeks or even days before landing in Canada without the almighty Canadian experience. Stay positive, do your due diligence in terms of adjusting your Resume and Cover-letter to Canadian format, network and you might be one of the lucky ones.
www.canadian-resume-service.com

3.)
Apply with your Canadian format Resume at job sites and banks, like workopolis.ca(it's the best, in my opinion as it's popular & has tonnes of
jobs, and a lot of people have already bagged so many jobs from using this site too, it works for almost everybody and has large clients)
Limit your job application submissions to a very few and based on specifications.
Have a specified Resume for a specified profession on a dedicated hiring site so you don't mess it up! and please don't spam! as this could cause disqualifications even in jobs you're qualified for.
Other good job sites:
www.kijiji.ca, www.careerbuilder.ca, www.indeed.com, www.monster.ca, www.jobbank.gc.ca/othsite-eng.aspx?CT=JL&CC=IR&RchJobType=Reg_jobs&OpPage=50, www.headhunter.com, www.jobs-emplois.gc.ca/index-eng.htm, www.toronto.en.craigslist.ca/, www.m.dice.com/m2/index.jsp, www.findjobinfo.com/, www.totaljobs.com/ca

4.)
Do as many international professional qualifications/certifications as possible: For Information Technologist; based on your specialisation like Cisco; CCENT, CCNA, CCNE, CCIE. CompTia; A+, CTT+, Network+. Microsoft; MCITP, MCTS, MCPD, MCA. ISACA; CISA, CISM. Oracle; OCA, OCP et al.

5.)
Be ready for voluntary work and paid internship: Canada has culture where lots of people do voluntary work, which is not common in part of the world that we come from. We need to make this cultural transition in our minds. As soon as we land we should take voluntary work and start paid internship in our field. Please see http://www.triec.ca/ for more details.

6.)
Start Building professional network over linked-in and other websites

7.)
Join as many technical and recruiting groups in your field of work as possible

8.)
Search for matching jobs and see what skill sets they need which you may not have

9.)
We should further polish our English; both spoken and written. There are free English programmes for this via Service Canada offices or visit www.brendin.ca for those of us landing in Alberta or you can walk into any Newcomer organisations situated all over Canada to fill a registration form. Also, we should try and develop on our "Soft Skills". Soft Skills is also known as Interpersonal Skills, or people
skills which include proficiencies such as communication skills, conflict resolution and negotiation, personal effectiveness, creative problem solving, strategic thinking, friendliness, team building, being charismatic,
influencing skills and selling skills, to name a few. These could play a deciding factor whether we'll easily and quickly blend in/cope with the work situation in Canada. The above speaks a lot of volume about our employability.

What I have read tells me it is really tough to find jobs without Canadian Education and Canadian Experience. But there are many organisations that work with immigrants to reduce the pain. Once we have known what to expect, how to over-come these challenges and are willing to take jobs that come our way irrespective of profile and salary, we will be in better shape to handle the initial troubles related to immigrating to Canada.

This is the best way I can cover this and I hope it's helpful....

All the best!
Totally in agreement, good job! Thanks
