Further advice I'll like to add, if you have the opportunity too , renew your passport probably just before you get your visa stamped, the Nigerian high commission is in Ottawa, for someone who is in Calgary, it will cost you some cash average of $500 dollars to fly to Ottawa to get your passport renewed you probably will need to book a hotel for a day as your appointment will be early the next day at additional cost.ekundapsy said:Dear switchlanes......
It's a really dicey matter. You definitely can't get a reissue passport before six months to your expiration. That begins from May 2014. But also remember that your visa validity is one year after your medicals or the EARLIEST passport expiry date of the principal applicant, spouse or dependants passport, which ever date is earliest.
When did you do your medicals? You should plan to land within one year of that. If your passport expiry date is after your medicals date, you have absolutely nothing to worry about if you plan to land before your medical expires.....(you don't have choice about that, anyway.....) But if your passport expiry date is before your medical expiry date, then, you might need a reissue passport if the PPR doesn't arrive before May 2014.
All in all, your passport is renewable, your medicals isn't. So, the plan still remains to land before medical expires.
Guvcode, Thanks for finding time to post. How is Canada City? I figure some people may think oh just $500, note any more you can save yourself is worth it and Unless you are planning to stay within Canada till you get your citizenship (which maybe 4 years with newly proposed laws) or you will be landing somewhere close to ottawa then do not bother about this comment.
Cheers

Please note that this advice is for anyone able to renew the passport before getting the visa, if your passport is stamped 'cancelled without prejudice' , which is what our Immigrations people do to the old passport, when they issue you a new passport, the Accra VO says you will need to transfer the visa to the new passport, see my post a few days ago for the mail I was sent when I made this enquiry, but you can check again with Accra, the rules may have change.switchlanes said:since i will be traveling after may 2014, i can have a passport renewal then, but having in mind that i have the visa on the old passport . i hope it doesnt matter having two passports, my passport is going to expire by nov 2014. i hope renewal doesnt make the visa on the old passport invalid.
