Happy valentine may we all find love in this season and many seasons to come!!! Yours sincerely landed on the 13th of Febuary 19:30 GMT at Pearson International Airport. Journey was quite smooth, we left Abuja 9am with British Airways arrived London about 3pm We left Heathrow about 5.30pm and arrived Toronto 7.30pm Canada time.

Please be mindful of the scale you use in weighing your luggage at home as mine misled us and we ended up paying so much for excess luggage!!! Also please remember the exact locations your IPad and laptops are as we waisted another 30mins at the security gate in Heathrow because I forgot to bring out one of the IPad from my hand luggage another round of detailed checking took place even when I told them we have just about an hour for the next flight I was still delayed. The lesson here is to know where all the devices are and put them on a separate tray at security.

Flight was fun all thru as hubby and I took time to watch a movie while the kids were awake with excitement all thru the flight trust them it was one cartoon after the other!!!

We were well received by the custom officials, we told them how much we were carrying as proof of funds but they never bothered to check, our luggages were not checked also. It was smiles all around until we got outside the airport and the cold winter air welcomed us in it's own way.

Would be out today doing the needful and would keep you posted.

The forum is a blessing and am glad I found it, was with Seglad yersterday and would be together again today to do the needful. The list is endless but would in time acknowledge everyone's effort particularly that of the landed seniors I doubt if any one has disturbed them with calls from Nigeria like I have done always asking questions!!! I am so used to having Nanny/house help around me here in Naija. I want to find out if i can apply or invite my sister to help take care of my kids in Canada.

The question now is:
1. Can my sister (dependant) accompany me to canada hoping that she will help cater for my kids.
2. If yes, how do i go about it?

I don't mean to be rude or sound inconsiderate, but, part of moving to the western world is to live a little different from what you are used to! I mean embrace life from another dimension and allow your children to grow up with the best of both worlds.

You may need to change your perspective on nannys and live in sister/relative, and start thinking of careers and availability of prospects around the needs of your children - the most common way of dealing with these things in the western world.

When you land yourself a brilliant job prospect, the cost of childcare will be last on your mind but until then, take one small step at a time, like land, get settled with family, observe your environ, learn and apply etc etc.

I hope I have not sounded brash (I have been accused of this before), only trying to help broaden your mind (and approach)!

From what I see you have your visa already so right now adding ur sister or your nanny is not an option...but all I will say is depending on your province you can always sponsor your sister thats after one yr of your stay here this is how it works in Manitoba am not sure of other province.So it will take some time for her to come over.I know a family here that added their nanny and she is of help to them because the lady goes to school at night and work during the day.I have also seen cases were the nanny has also reported thoes that brought her to canada to the government.I know as a woman this can be challenging but also consider the option of you and your spouse switching taking care of the kids.If he is in you are out./when he is out you are in everything is all about planning.It may be difficult for Nigeria Men (i mean no insults guys pls) because of our cultural background but this option should be considered too. Also consider getting a daycare this depends on your pocket and the number or children you have that will require daycare cos getting into lisenced daycare there is usually a long wait list am speaking from manitoba am not sure of how it works in other province.Go through the site below as regards family sponsorship http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/index.asp.I hope this helps

Hey guys, nobody responded to my enquiry, anyone in toronto knows how much it costs to get a nanny there????

Not sure of exact amount but i hear it's quite expensive I guess the mother might have to nanny the child for some time. There are informal arrangement also that could be less expensive, I advise you go thru the landed Naija thread this question I believe was well dealth with in the early life of that thread.
