@Orire,Many thanks for this insight.Just wondering when you collected the new passport did you write to AVO on the change in passport nos prior to the passport submission for visa? Also how many months to expiry would Nija passport office issue a fresh passport ?my previous thinking was that the current passport must have expired. Also if there is a name change involved in the renewal does this affect the aforementioned process in any way?Orire said:There are two options for you to have your passport valid:
1. For the expensive, considering logistics, you may ask that your passport be extended by another 5 years since the electronic passport total lifespan is 10yrs. However, this can only be achieved at the passport office, Abuja.
2. For a cheaper option, the passport may be re-issued at any of the passport offices, nationwide after which the former one will be cancelled.
Although, most embassies might not issue visas on a travel passport of which validity is less than 6 months but valid visas on expired/cancelled passport remain valid until they are expired(e.g 10years Visa on your 5 years passport). You are only required to have a valid passport attached to the expired/cancelled. Please use "rubber band" and not staple pin, otherwise, the embedded chip may be damaged and render your passport useless.
I received PPR mail as at the time my passport validity was less than 6 months. I got another passport(which carries the PRV) and all visas on the old passport remain valid.
