In response to the underlined. I think its unnecessary. Since she is the PA (Principal Applicant) she will only need to go ahead to land. She may chose to inform the necessary authority of the development as advised by Pa. Right. There should be a verifiable document handy for that purpose like Death Certificate signed by a competent medical practitioner.
If there is a particular reason you feel AVO should be informed, you can say it. Let the house review it together.

Madam Costa D,
Sorry for your loss and i understand the trauma that comes with bereavement.
Personally, I think you should re-strategize, inform AVO of the change in your family composition, attaching a copy of your husbands Death Certificate, and i think his visa will be cancelled. You don't want to take the chance of being turned back in Canada, if you dont return his visa or inform them of his demise before you leave. I dont think informing them at the point of entry is the right option. As the principal, you can still land. You should know this. Also visit the CIC website for more information.
The Almighty that answers the Why is the only one that can answer your questions at this point, but be assured in the hope that he cares for you and will not leave you now.
My 2 cents
